When choosing any tripod consider the weight of camera equipment which must be supported, as well as the fully extended height which is required. Weight tolerance should take into account the tripod head capacity together with legs. Generally speaking most regular models can easily support a mirrorless camera or DSLR with a regular or short telephoto lens. It is only when adding super telephotos for sports or bird watching we should be too concerned. In those instances choosing a suitable pan head will be essential in order to keep up with the action.
Outdoor photographers will tend to use taller tripod legs in order to have as much flexibility when framing a shot as possible. A centre column will allow greater extension, but will also be more prone to tiny movements from wind. A shorter tripod will be an excellent choice for travel and holidays, able to fold up smaller and be stowed in a suitable camera backpack or specific tripod bag.
