Full-frame CMOS sensors provide a range of high resolutions from 20.1MP to 45MP. Videographers now have access to world leading 8K video, right through to 4K and of course high speed Full HD across all models. Processing power comes from Canon’s DIGIC engine and currently span the DIGIC 8 to DIGIC X, which is the latest available on any Canon camera. Bodies support high speed shooting, low light shooting as well as world leading optical stabilisation when combined with native RF lenses. The handy table below outlines key differences between various EOS R models, their processors plus stills and video capabilities.
Canon’s mirrorless M range are complete with an APS-C sized sensor and are truly portable, being the smallest system with interchangeable lenses currently offered by Canon. They are compatible with EF-M mount lenses providing a crop factor of 1.6x, making them smaller and lighter than full-frame RF equivalents. The M range also delivers excellent images and video capabilities and are no slouches with up to 14fps and up to around 32MP image resolution. Keen movie makers are well catered for with 4K video as well as external mic ports and plenty of lenses with IS stabilisation. What’s more, Vlogging is made even easier with many of Canon’s compact mirrorless cameras thanks to fully articulating screens and the vast collection of compatible lenses.
The lens ecosystem is a particular benefit to Canon mirrorless systems, with mount conversion adaptors available allowing photographers to use EF lenses on mirrorless bodies. Check out our daily stock of used Canon cameras and used lenses to expand your collection whilst saving on buying new.
