Our Verdict

Nikon has gone to lengths to deliver a host of updates with the upgraded Z6 II full frame mirrorless camera. The CMOS sensor shows improved dynamic range whilst retaining 24.5 megapixels along with excellent low light performance. Two processors double the power available for anything from autofocus speed to buffer capacity. Overall performance is smooth whether filming or shooting stills and the camera maintains in-body vibration reduction with 5-stops advantage as well as other key features from its’ predecessor.

Dual card slots keep pace with the faster body and are able to adapt to any workflow. UHS-II SD cards can be used in one slot with the latest ultra-fast CFexpress cards in the other. The body itself is made from a strong lightweight magnesium-alloy and designed to shoot outdoors with full sealing against dust, dirt and moisture.

Autofocus has also been enhanced and the Z6 II is able to acquire subjects swiftly and then track them relentlessly whilst also employing Nikon’s latest Eye, Face and Animal detect systems. A final welcome update comes in the form of the SnapBridge app, which now facilitates firmware updates via a smart device as well as remote camera control. With all of these feature upgrades and ready access to the growing number of high end Nikkor Z-mount lenses the Z6 II body is certain to attract a lot of new fans.
