Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens For L-Mount in More Detail

Outstanding results from Art Series optics

The 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens delivers superb results which are consistently sharp, detailed and well controlled thanks to a new optical design. This includes two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements, an Extraordinary Low Dispersion (ELD) element, an ‘F’ Low Dispersion (FLD) element and two aspherical elements. Users with compatible cameras will also benefit from this model being compatible with lens-based optical correction.

The 35mm Art lens is able to control sagittal coma flare extremely well even when shooting wide open. This stops bright points of light from flaring out near the edges of the frame, particularly appealing to night sky photographers. Those who shoot into backlit conditions benefit from anti-ghosting and anti-flare technology found on the best Sigma lenses which maintains high contrast and reduces excessive flare.

Weather resistance

Weather sealing often differentiates lenses aimed at professionals and Sigma has incorporated a dust and splash proof structure with sealing on buttons and along joins between parts as well as a rubber gasket around the mount. There’s also a water and oil repellent coating on the front element ensuring photographers can rely on this lens in any conditions.

Professional controls

Lenses have to keep up with the advancement of camera technology and this updated 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art lens does just that with numerous features assisting a versatile and professional workflow.

Controls include a focus mode switch and DMF, AF+MF, lens or camera controlled aperture ring with lock and de-click features and a customisable AFL button.

If you’re a Sony camera user this lens is also available as the 35mm f/1.4 Art for E-mount.

Looking to sell your Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens For L-Mount?

Our Verdict

Sigma has updated the pro-level 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens which fits full frame mirrorless L-mount cameras including their own fp L-mount full frame camera. In fact the fp-L includes an electronic zoom feature which makes this versatile focal width prime even more appealing, although 35mm doesn’t need any help with being popular. The lens combines high end optics with low weight and a compact size as seen with Art-line lenses, providing appeal for professional and enthusiast photographers across a broad range of genres.

As film making becomes more accessible Sigma has included several features which broaden the appeal of this prime to those capturing video content. A silent, fast stepping motor along with de-clickable aperture ring and smooth rubber focus ring (with AF/MF switch) combine to create a compelling option. The 35mm f/1.4 Art also delivers impeccable image results thanks to a slew of special optical elements in the design. Sigma lenses often score incredibly well in sharpness tests right across the frame and we’re certain this professional Art lens will perform similarly well. If you’re an L-mount camera owner and enjoy shooting slightly wide prime focal widths this is a seriously desirable lens which will last for years and provide beautiful results along the way.
