The Sigma 90mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens for Leica L Mount full frame cameras joins four other compact primes in Sigma’s premium Contemporary range. It offers superb optical results for subjects as varied as portraits, close-ups, weddings and events as well as being a versatile video option. With an all-metal exterior, an aperture ring and a new design made especially for mirrorless, the lens is robust and well balanced on any full frame Sigma, Panasonic Lumix or Leica mirrorless cameras.
Despite weighing just 295g this short telephoto is packed with special optical elements to render sharp results, features a fast and accurate AF stepping motor as well as bright, 9-bladed round aperture. This enables users to shoot in low light situations with a shallow depth of field and render beautifully smooth out of focus areas to isolate their subject.

Premium Contemporary Sigma lenses are being released with a new optical design capable of impressive results using high quality materials and well thought out ergonomics. Sigma has combined a new optical design in the 90mm f/2.8 DG DN for Leica, which is one of the lightest and most compact L Mount lenses at this focal width, without sacrificing optical quality.
New Contemporary line optical performance
The Sigma 90mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens will resolve excellent detail whichever full frame body you use, including Sigma’s own 61MP fp L camera. The optical technology includes five SLD glass elements which reduce axial chromatic aberration that cannot be corrected in-camera. This enables the lens to achieve high resolution clear image quality with no colour bleeding. Beautiful bokeh is rendered by a glass moulded aspherical lens which also draws on camera corrections to ensure consistently high results.
The lens offers further versatility for tele-macro style shooting of close-up images thanks to a minimum focusing distance of 50cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.
An internal AF system with a high-speed stepping motor is fast and quiet making full use of current AF technologies, also making a great option for videography.
Compact form with excellent build quality
The all-metal exterior with precision-cut aluminium parts offers excellent build quality with an enjoyable user experience from refined ergonomics. Internal metal parts are also used for added durability, with enviable ‘made in Japan’ quality showing throughout the sleek exterior. The compact nature of the lens extends to the cost effective 55mm filter thread which is shared with the 45mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for L and 24mm F3.5 DG DN Contemporary for L. Together these make an excellent trio of primes, particularly for film makers who switch filters, with a combined weight of just 735 grams.

If you enjoy shooting short telephoto subjects 90mm is a popular length to opt for photographers and videographers with a specialism in portraits, weddings and events. Sigma’s latest offering in this range is the 90mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary adding to the list of L mount lens options. This 90mm prime offers users an enticing combination of compact size and low weight with superb optical results. The lens comes with Sigma's latest optical design made specifically for mirrorless, resulting in sharp images and videos. They included a fast 9-bladed f/2.8 aperture that allows you to capture fine details in your subjects with a shallow depth of field, concentrating the viewer’s eye on what matters in the frame, with pleasing smooth bokeh and out of focus areas surrounding.
A close minimum focus distance adds opportunity to capture supporting detail shots and close-ups as well as more abstract compositions.
The focus motor is fast and quiet working well with Alliance camera AF systems and lens barrel controls include support for DMF and AF+MF with a focus mode switch for precise focusing. The lens mount includes dust and moisture resistance while the front element features Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating to reduce flare and ghosting. Even supplied accessories which come with the lens look very nice quality with a magnetic metal lens cap, enhancing the overall ownership experience. Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.
