Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E Summary

With a lightweight construction and portable form factor, the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E is the world’s smallest and lightest ultra wide angle zoom for APS-C format Sony alpha cameras.

Despite weighing just 260g, this Sigma lens from the Contemporary range includes several special optics, and benefits from a close 11.6cm minimum focus distance in order to deliver razor sharp results for landscapes, travel, video and online content creation. With an equivalent full-frame 15-27mm focal range, the lens is ideal for a huge variety of additional subjects including street photography, portraits, pets and food to name a few.

Its’ design supports the use of gimbal stabilisers to create an ultralight video setup, while the constant bright f/2.8 aperture is ideal for separating your subject from distracting backgrounds whether shooting stills, movies or vlogs.

The lens is compatible with electronic image stabilisation, aberration correction, DMF and AF+MF with select Sony camera bodies, maintaining a wide field of view even when electronic image stabilisation crops into the image. This makes the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN a great choice for run-and-gun video creators, Youtube vlogging and other social content creation.

Sigma’s stepping motor technology is fully compatible with enhanced AF tracking and delivers fast and quiet autofocus for both stills and video for pin sharp results across a variety of subjects.

Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E in More Detail

New zoom lens for Sony E cameras with APS-C sensors

The 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN lens from Sigma complements existing APS-C Contemporary models already available, such as the 16mm, 23mm, 30mm, and 56mm fixed focal width mirrorless lenses for Sony. This enables creators to choose between a versatile zoom and bright fixed prime options, with a whole suite of compact lenses to suit any purpose.

Super compact and lightweight

At launch, the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary is the world’s smallest and lightest ultra wide angle zoom lens for APS-C cameras, with a length of 62mm, a maximum diameter of 72.2mm and a weight of 260g. With such compact attributes, this lens can be carried around with ease, or attached to an APS-C camera and video gimbal stabiliser to create an ultra-portable video setup.

Capture sharp results across the entire image

By utilising unique optics, which have been designed to correct lens aberrations, the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens produces sharp images across the entire frame.

The use of an aspherical element with large eccentricity and refractive index as the first lens element has enabled an optical construction with a reduced number of elements. This has enabled Sigma to design a lens that can produce high resolution images, whilst remaining compact and lightweight.

Close minimum focus distance with high magnification

Enjoy additional versatility to create expressive close-up shots thanks to an 11.6cm minimum focusing distance, when shooting at the ultra wide 10mm end of the zoom. With a magnification ratio of 1:4, you can capture unique portraits, still life shots and much more besides.

Newly developed push-on petal type hood

A newly developed push-on petal type hood is included, which is attached onto the lens using a spring and lever system. This new design reduces the size and thickness of the hood in order to match the compact size and remain inconspicuous when mounted.

Ideal for photo, video and content creation

With ultra-wide focal length, portable body and razor-sharp results, the SIGMA 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary is remarkably portable for anything from landscape and travel, to interiors and street photography.

It also provides impressive video performance thanks to a bright f/2.8 aperture, which also makes it eminently capable of capturing excellent results in low-light environments, and for creating a shallow depth-of-field.

What’s more, the ultra wide angle of view is ideal for handheld vlogging, as it captures both the subject and the environment.

Minimises focus breathing

Sigma has designed this Contemporary model to suppress focus breathing, creating a natural-looking focus shift when recording video, without unnatural changes to the angle of view, when pulling focus.

Support for advanced camera functionality

The Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Lens for Sony E is compatible with electronic image stabilisation, aberration correction function, DMF, and AF+MF on supported cameras like the A6700. The advantage using an ultra wide angle lens of this calibre, is that it provides a generous angle of view, even when an electronic image stabilisation function crops the image.

Stepping Motor AF technology

A fast and quiet stepping motor is employed to deliver precise AF when shooting stills and video, which is fully compatible with in-camera AF tracking modes.
