With 5-stops of image stabilisation the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM zoom Lens is a professional quality L-Series workhorse for Canon mirrorless cameras. Superb optical engineering, a fast f/2.8 maximum aperture and 5-stop image stabilisation combine to help you stay creative in any situation. The wide to standard zoom range is well suited to any number of subjects including landscapes, portraits, travel, weddingsand much more.
The RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM is know for being an extremely versatile and reliable workhorse L-Series zoom, which has become a staple for many photographers. Whether you capture fast-paced action, portraits, or landscapes, this standard zoom lens covers a broad range of subjects, and is ideal for professional and enthusiast photographers. With its focal range of 24-70mm, it offers the flexibility for endless shooting situations, from classic 24mm wide-angle compositions to mid-range subjects at a slightly longer distance.
One of the key advantage of this lens is its pro-level f/2.8 aperture, which provides excellent low-light performance and allows for precise subject separation with smooth background blur. The inclusion of Canon’s Image Stabilisation (IS) ensures that handheld shots remain steady, even in low light conditions.
The RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM uses a fast and quiet Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) for autofocus, allowing photographers to capture sharp images even when subjects are in motion. The RF lens also benefits from Canon’s premium L-series build quality, which includes weather sealing for added durability in challenging environments.
This lens is an ideal choice for photographers looking for a high-performance, general-purpose zoom lens that combines flexibility, sharpness, and reliability in one optic.
With rapid, accurate focusing thanks to a Nano USM motor users will enjoy instant and silent AF with exceptional smoothness, perfect for video as well as stills photography. Aspherical and UD elements ensure crisp, sharp images with any EOS R camera and Canon has added ASC (Air Sphere Coating) to prevent flare and ghosting.

Canon RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM Lens Summary
Completing Canon’s trio of unified RF hybrid primes is the Canon RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM Lens, which combines rugged L-series build quality with professional-level optics. It joins the Canon RF 24mm f/1.4L VCM Lens and RF 35mm F/1.4L VCM, providing users with a versatile set of fast primes for their creative content. All three models feature a Voice Coil Motor (VCM) for fast, accurate, and near-silent autofocus, making them ideal for hybrid creators working with both stills and video.
The RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM offers an extremely popular standard field of view, which is well suited to all manner of subjects and genres. Its durable L-series construction provides reliability even in demanding conditions, and the lens balances well thanks to internal focusing, whether handheld or mounted on a camera rig or stabiliser, which is ideal for on-location shoots.
The RF lens is equipped with a dedicated iris ring for smooth and silent aperture adjustments, which benefits filmmakers who need to make seamless exposure transitions. A customisable control ring and function button further enhance versatility, allowing users to customise the lens to suit their workflow.
When paired with a full-frame Canon mirrorless camera or cinema camera, the RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM’s advanced optical design, with aspherical elements and UD glass, minimises aberrations and distortions for high-resolution results. Canon RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM Lens in More Detail
High image quality
Canon’s RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM lens offers high image quality through a combination of aspherical elements and Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) lenses, both designed to minimise common optical issues. These elements work to correct spherical aberrations and reduce chromatic aberrations, resulting in sharpness and contrast that remains consistent across the entire frame, even when shooting wide open at the wider f/1.4 aperture.
The optical design also ensures crisp details from centre to edge, which is ideal for capturing accurate colours, and high contrast results, even in challenging lighting or backlit conditions.
Unlike existing RF 50mm lenses from Canon, which include the more affordable f/1.8 and the ultra-high-end f/1.2 options, the f/1.4 strikes a balance between professional quality and accessibility.
With its 11-blade aperture, the lens delivers smooth, rounded bokeh, adding a cinematic feel to portrait and video work, and offers superb subject separation. The wide aperture also enhances low-light shooting capabilities, making it versatile for everything from street photography to events.
Easy handling for hybrid use
This RF 50mm f/1.4 lens includes hybrid-friendly features, such as the fast and silent focusing achieved through its Nano USM and VCM system. This makes it a valuable tool for video creators, offering reduced focus breathing and smooth transitions during filmmaking. Its intuitive controls, including a dedicated iris ring and customisable control options, streamline the user experience.
Fast precise focus
A dual Nano USM and a Voice Coil Motor deliver fast, accurate autofocus, with the added benefit of reduced focus breathing, making the lens particularly well-suited for video.
VCM technology allows you to capture spontaneous moments and achieve smooth silent focus transitions during filmmaking due to the system’s ability to move large lens elements more quickly.
Durable build quality
The robust build of Canon’s L-series ensures durability even when shooting in harsh environments. A Fluorine coating protects against dust, moisture, and fingerprints, and the 50mm f/1.4 also incorporates internal focusing and enhanced parfocal performance, ensuring it fits seamlessly into your workflow alongside the RF 24mm and 35mm VCM lenses.
A unified design allows for quick rig swaps and integration into professional video productions, whether shooting on a mirrorless EOS R camera or a dedicated cinema camera.
Canon RF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens Summary
Canon have revealed the RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM lens, developed specifically for their full-frame EOS R mirrorless cameras. This lens is the third of six new models being released for the compact system and shows how committed Canon are to moving into mirrorless format. The first thing you will notice when handling this lens is how ultra compact it is for an f/2.8, 70-200. In fact it is jaw dropping, especially when compared with the equivalent EF version for DSLR’s.
On the subject of quality, this pro L-series lens is constructed with no less than 17 elements in 13 groups, which is quite remarkable considering the compact, lightweight form. The inclusion of aspherical and Super UD elements provide enhanced high contrast and sharp results and glass elements are finished off with Canons’ SWC and Super Spectra coatings. To assist with sharper hand-held photography, this model also includes an effective 5-stop Image Stabiliser.
The 70-200mm focal range is an excellent workhorse range for a number of applications. From everyday creative use for subjects slightly further away to specialised subjects including portraits, weddings, compressing landscapes and of course action. The f/2.8 telephoto zoom complements the RF 24-70mm f/2.8L and RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM as Canon’s mirrorless Trinity of lenses. All three boast L series quality, fast constant apertures and high speed AF motors. Newer mirrorless bodies such as the EOS R5 and R6 camera sync with the 70-200 IS with IBIS working seamlessly with the lens optical stabilisation. Not all of Canon’s earliest mirrorless cameras sported in-body stabilisation however, which is where this lens picks up 5 stops of advantage.

Canon RF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS USM Lens in More Detail
A dual nano USM motor is built-in for highly responsive and quick focussing from just 70cm on to infinity. This opens up the ability to capture macro images as well as the huge range of subjects ideal for this standard telephoto length. Users will of course include wedding, studio, portrait, action and wildlife photographers to name a few. 70-200 really are versatile workhorse zooms and feature in many enthusiasts and pro photographer kit bags.
Another innovative feature which Canon have included in the RF 70-200mm is the addition of a rear control ring. This allows the photographer to easily change a range of camera settings from the lens itself, including shutter speed, aperture and ISO. The control ring is a welcome addition, giving users even more chances of capturing the perfect shot, by providing an intuitive and quick method of adjusting settings without taking your eye off the action.
Outdoor and travel photographers will be pleased to read that this model is fully weather sealed and includes fluorine coatings to protect against dust and water. Canon have even utilised heat resistant paint to keep the lens cooler when shooting in hot conditions. For those seeking smooth out of focus areas, the 9 blade aperture design, along with bright f/2.8 aperture will ensure consistently smooth bokeh. Last but not least, the common filter thread size of 77mm will appeal to those with existing filters or accessories.
