It has only been a little over a year since the Osmo Action 5 Pro, and DJI has released its new flagship action camera, the DJI Osmo Action 6. The latest generation brings a lot of upgrades that change how this compact do-it-all camera works, including a larger 1/1.1-inch square sensor, a variable aperture from f/2.0 to f/4.0 [4], and a new approach to shooting in both bright and low-light conditions.

Despite these changes, it is still incredibly compact at 149 g, yet it now manages exposure shifts, night video, and reframing far better than any of the earlier versions. DJI has updated stabilisation, increased built-in storage, and overhauled the accessory ecosystem for travel, sports, cycling, diving, and everyday content creation.
These upgrades make the Osmo Action 6 a better option for creators who move between fast action, different times of day lighting, and social-first shooting.
But is the Osmo Action 6 the right choice for you? What combos can you buy, how much does it cost in the UK, and how does it compare with the previous model?
Join us in this first look review as we answer these questions, with everything you need to know about the new DJI Osmo Action 6.

Here’s are the biggest upgrades and changes compared with the Osmo Action 5 Pro.
Next we cover why these upgrades are better for your content creation.

Dual battery and handle useful when travelling or hiking as image above
Thanks to the new 1/1.1-inch square sensor with larger 2.4 μm pixels the Osmo Action 6 is better at capturing detail in highlights and shadows, especially during low light situations.
The new variable aperture feature in the Action 6 camera gives you more control in bright and low-light, letting you adjust exposure without relying as heavily on ND filters or post-production correction. You can still get the DJI Osmo Action 6 ND Filter Set, which we talk about later.

This new mode lets you record a square frame that can be cropped to horizontal, vertical, or square without losing clarity. It’s similar to having Open Gate recording in an action camera, which is pretty impressive.
It means you can keep shooting even without a memory card, which helps during travel or times when you want to record something instantly. You can still add an optional microSD card, with support for up to 1 TB.
Yes, the updated stabilisation keeps footage steady at higher resolutions and frame rates, using RockSteady 3.0, RockSteady 3.0+, HorizonBalancing and HorizonSteady depending on the mode. Action 6 has in-camera 4K HorizonSteady, which the previous model did not.

There are two launch options in the UK, and both include the Action 6 camera with new variable aperture, 50 GB internal storage, dual OLED screens and updated stabilisation. The difference is in how many accessories you get in the box.

All video is saved as MP4 (HEVC). The camera records:
This keeps files small but high quality, and makes them easy to use on phones or laptops, while capturing content for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and cross-platform releases.

Yes. Slow-motion is available at:
You can also shoot standard video and apply slow motion in-camera afterwards, which is a great feature.
Yes, it captures 38MP stills (7168 x 5376) in JPEG or RAW (for editing), and supports:

Yes Osmo Action 6 is waterproof out of the box to 20 metres as long as the battery door, USB-C door and lens cover are fully sealed.
With the optional Action 6 Waterproof Case or Action 6 Diving Accessory Kit, you can take it down to 60 metres for deep sea diving. A built-in colour-temperature sensor corrects underwater colour shifts automatically, so you get brilliant results even at those depths.
The 1950mAh Osmo Action Extreme Battery Plus provides up to 240 minutes when recording 1080p/24fps in controlled conditions. In cold weather down to -20°C, it still delivers around 167 minutes at 1080p/24fps.
Bear in mind that real-world runtimes will depend on resolution, frame rate and stabilisation, as well as environmental conditions.

DJI accessories are available for biking, diving, vlogging, action sports and travel.
Main Action 6 accessories include:
These are all quick-release, so swapping between mounts is fast.

Yes, ou can move videos and photos in three ways:
High-speed transfer (USB 3.1) works with a compatible cable for fast 4K transfers.
Yes, both screens are touch-enabled, so you can change modes, adjust settings, review footage, and navigate menus from either display.
To switch, swipe up from the bottom of the screen you want to activate. You can use just the rear screen, just the front screen, or run both at the same time, depending on your workflow.

Yes. You can trigger recording, stop recording, take photos, and shut down the camera using simple voice commands in English or Mandarin. Gesture Control works up to 2 metres away and recognises an open palm to start or stop recording, or to take a photo, just like the newly launched DJI Neo 2 drone!
Gestures are amazing when you’re vlogging, if wearing gloves, or mounting the camera somewhere you can’t reach easily.
Yes, many third party mounts are compatible via the Quick-Release Adapter Mount. This covers standard action camera mounts, 1/4-inch tripods (via the 1.5m Extension Rod or battery handle), and magnetic ball-joint adapters.
DJI’s bespoke accessories like the Macro Lens, FOV Boost Lens, Waterproof Case, and Battery Handle attach use the latest Dual-Direction Quick-Release system.

The Osmo Action 6 is a brilliant all-in-one compact waterproof action camera that thrives on fast action, low light, and mixed types of content creation.
Thanks to the new sensor it’s ideal for creators who switch between horizontal and vertical content, and for people who want a pocket-sized camera that works in any weather conditions.
The updated sensor, variable aperture, and improved stabilisation also make it a great choice when you want better-looking footage without switching to a bigger camera.
With the Action 6 you can capture:
Sports and action
Everyday content and travel
Low-light and night scenes
Specialist content

Upgrade mainly for image quality, flexibility and control. The larger 1/1.1-inch sensor, new variable aperture, and 4K Custom mode give you more detail from dawn to dusk and more freedom for cropping and reframing later.
It also stabilises better at higher resolutions, has more internal storage, and works with new accessories. These upgrades ensure you’re getting a more capable camera for everyday use, especially for low light, travel, and for multiple social formats.
The Osmo Action 6 is a substantial update to an already amazing camera, which makes it slightly better at video but a whole lot easier top use with cleaner results.
With the new sensor, variable aperture, built-in storage, and wide range of accessories, it covers more shooting styles than any previous DJI action camera.
This is the most capable version DJI has ever made, which is super compact, tough, and ready for anything you throw at it, or under it.
Shop for the DJI Osmo Action 6 Standard Combo or DJI Osmo Action 6 Adventure Combo to suit the way you create content, and don’t forget to add everyday action camera accessories to take it to the next level.
