33MP Full-Frame Sensor and BIONZ XR Processing
The A7 IV's 35.9 x 23.9mm Exmor R CMOS sensor captures 33 megapixels, producing JPEG, HEIF and RAW files up to 7008 x 4672 pixels. This resolution gives enough detail for substantial cropping, useful when a subject sits beyond the reach of a telephoto lens. The BIONZ XR processor, carried over from the Alpha 1, reduces processing latency and keeps the interface and file handling responsive even under sustained continuous shooting.
A native ISO range of 100 to 51,200, expandable to 204,800 for stills, is paired with approximately 15 stops of dynamic range at lower sensitivities. This supports smooth gradation between shadows and highlights and controls noise even when images are cropped in post-production.
5-Axis In-Body Stabilisation
Sensor-shift stabilisation with 5-axis compensation gives up to 5.5 stops of shutter speed advantage, helping maintain sharpness at slower shutter speeds without a tripod. An Active Mode adds further stabilisation for handheld video.
Real-Time Tracking Autofocus
Real-time Tracking autofocus uses colour, pattern and depth data to maintain focus on a selected subject, with Eye AF for humans, animals and birds, including left and right eye selection for humans and animals. A 759-point phase-detection AF system covers approximately 94 percent of the frame and focuses down to EV -4, supporting accurate tracking in low light. Touch Focus and Touch Tracking let a subject be selected directly on the monitor to begin tracking.
4K Video Recording
4K recording is available at up to 60fps in Super 35 (APS-C crop) mode, or at 24p in full-frame 4:2:2 10-bit. Super 35 mode uses full pixel readout without pixel binning, processing around 2.3 times more data than standard 4K capture for finer detail and reduced moire. Recording formats include XAVC S, XAVC HS and HEIF, the latter offering roughly twice the compression of JPEG at comparable quality, useful for 10-bit skies and portrait gradation. S-Cinetone colour science, adapted from Sony's FX6 cinema camera, renders natural skin tones and highlight detail. A revised heat-dissipating structure helps sustain longer recording sessions without overheating.
Storage and Connectivity
Dual card slots support CFexpress Type A and UHS-II SD cards, with CFexpress Type A better suited to sustained high-speed burst shooting and high-bitrate video. USB Type-C supports fast data transfer for tethered shooting and file offload.
Controls

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
