Panasonic Lumix S1 IIE Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Body Summary
The Panasonic Lumix S1 IIE is the next-generation full-frame camera from Panasonic, which builds on the hybrid S series platform with a number of new and upgraded features for today’s professional and enthusiast creators. It shares many of the key features found in the high-speed S1 II, with a different 24.2MP full-frame sensor, Phase Hybrid AF, and 14-stop dynamic range when shooting in V-Log. Although it doesn’t feature the partially stacked sensor from the S1 II, the S1 IIE delivers excellent image quality with capable performance for stills-first and video content creation.
One of the most notable updates over the previous generation is the addition of native ARRI Log C3 gamma curve support (via paid upgrade), which enables content creators to integrate the S1 IIE into cinema workflows with ARRI more easily. This is combined with Panasonic’s V-Log and advanced LUT support, which makes the S1 IIE an excellent Lumix camera for multi-camera sets and more streamlined post-production needs.
The camera also offers refined subject recognition, with a newly developed Urban Sports AF mode for erratic motion such as BMX, parkour and skating, and internal 10-bit 4:2:2 video in resolutions up to 6K 30p Open Gate. Hybrid creators benefit from real-time LUTs, direct SSD backup, and updated dual card slots with one CFexpress (Type B) and one SD memory card (UHS-II) slot.
Whether upgrading from a previous Lumix or switching to full-frame for the first time, the S1 IIE is a capable hybrid camera body with a comprehensive suite of creative tools for photo and video creation.

Panasonic Lumix S1 IIE Mirrorless Camera in More Detail
Full-Frame 24.2MP CMOS Sensor
The Lumix S1 IIE features a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor, which offers the perfect resolution for hybrid stills and video creators, without pushing data and power demands to extremes. This proven sensor design produces clean results with high colour accuracy and 14 stops of dynamic range.
ISO performance is strong across a native range of ISO 100-51200, delivering low noise, clean results in various lighting conditions. For hybrid users, this provides a good balance between image detail, noise and file sizes.
The sensor offers a 779-point Phase Detection AF system / Contrast AF system (315-area), which also features Panasonic’s DFD technology. Automatic Detection can be turned ON to switch between Human / Animal / Car / Motorcycle/Bike / Train / Airplane, with low light performance down to EV -6.
96MP High Resolution mode and burst speeds
The camera features a 96MP High Resolution mode, which captures multiple exposures and merges them to create a high-resolution image. This is particularly effective for static subjects or when using a tripod, and allows for enhanced detail and colour accuracy when more resolution and accuracy are vital.
Pre-burst mode is also available, which begins capturing data even before the shutter is fully pressed. This allows you to capture defining moments, which might otherwise have been missed.
The camera can burst in mechanical shutter mode to 10fps (AFC), or up to 30fps in electronic shutter mode (AFS/AFC/MF), catering to everyday subjects and some action requirements. The buffer will record more than 200 images when shooting with both RAW+JPEG, or more than 160 images with RAW+HEIF.
Advanced Video Recording Options
Panasonic has included 6K 30p Open Gate video recording using the full sensor width, with numerous additional video format options including 4K 60p 10-bit, ProRes 422 HQ internal, and RAW output over HDMI to compatible Atomos or Blackmagic devices.
Full-frame Open Gate is ideal for vertical, widescreen or multiple aspect ratios, reducing the need to reshoot for different platforms and saving a ton of time during post matching colour and style. With high-quality internal recording, professional format support and in-camera monitoring tools like waveform, false colour and vectorscope, the S1 IIE delivers a reliable toolkit for solo creators and production teams. Recording with Open Gate is particularly useful for projects that are pushed to multiple platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram Reels, TikTok and where you need cinematic widescreen for example.
ARRI Log C3 Gamma Support
ARRI Log C3 (via DMW-SFU3A software key) brings cinematic colour control directly to the S1 IIE, enabling easier integration with ARRI ALEXA and AMIRA, as well as Lumix own MFT cameras like the GH7 and GH6. With Panasonic’s V-Log, the option of ARRI Log C3 gives users more flexibility when it comes to matching colour across multi-cam environments.
Refined Autofocus with Urban Sports AF Mode
The camera’s phase detection AF system benefits from enhanced algorithms and a dedicated Urban Sports AF mode. This makes the S1 IIE more responsive to unpredictable movement which is commonly found in city sports, and especially useful for run-and-gun shooting, dance, performance or urban action footage.
Subjects which are recognised and tracked include:
- Street dance
- Freestyle football
- Skateboarding
- BMX
- Parkour
PDAF combines with DFD and contrast detection for fast, accurate focusing, even when subjects briefly exit the frame or are obscured by objects.
Dual Media Slots and SSD Backup
The inclusion of CFexpress (Type B) and SD UHS-II card slots improves speed for hybrid creators. Panasonic’s direct-to-SSD backup function is also supported, which allows for quick on-location file transfers without the need for a laptop, which is ideal for documentary and event content where redundancy could be critical.
REAL TIME LUTs and Monitoring Tools
Support for .vlt and .cube LUTs allows in-camera preview of custom colour profiles. This lets users shoot with a final colour grade previewed, which in turn streamlines the editing process. Advanced monitoring tools such as anamorphic de-squeeze, frame markers, vectorscope, false colour and more further cement the S1 IIE as a very capable production-ready camera for solo creators and small teams.
5-Axis Image Stabilisation and Robust Build Quality
Panasonic’s 5-axis IBIS system provides a very proficient 8.0 stops maximum compensation (CIPA), with Dual I.S. 2 available when paired with compatible L-Mount lenses. The body also features a rugged, weather-sealed magnesium alloy chassis, ensuring that the S1 IIE is ideally equipped for handheld shooting in all but the most challenging environments.
The body is compatible with the optional Lumix DMW-BG2 Battery Grip, which extends shooting times and adds comfort in vertical orientation.
High-res Viewfinder and Touch Screen
A high-resolution 5.76M-dot OLED EVF offers a bright, detailed view with up to 120fps refresh rates, which is complemented by a 1.84M-dot tilt and vari-angle LCD, which provides accurate framing and playback. Touchscreen support and responsive menus help with usability in the field and upgrades the previous generation camera’s screen which did not offer vari-angle adjustment.
Connectivity and Power
The S1 IIE features diverse connectivity for hybrid creators, which includes USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, full-size HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, XLR support (via accessory), and live streaming over Wi-Fi or tethered USB.
The camera is powered by Panasonic’s familiar DMW-BLK22 battery and users will find useful tools including a dedicated S&Q switch, dial lock,. front REC button and more.

Our Verdict
The Panasonic Lumix S1 IIE is a refined and highly capable next-generation stills-first hybrid camera for professional and advanced creators who need a combination of versatility, high image quality, and a number of production-ready tools. It inherits the solid build and intuitive handling of the original S1, but brings it up to modern expectations with a number of useful upgrades, which includes improvements to both stills and video performance.
The inclusion of ARRI Log C3 (via upgraded key) for colour matching with high-end cinema gear is a key addition for some users, while support for Open Gate 6K video, ProRes internal RAW and advanced monitoring tools ensures the S1 IIE meets the needs of indie filmmakers who shoot for release across multiple platforms.
The addition of direct SSD backup, REAL TIME LUTs, fast dual card slots, and updated phase detection AF with a new Urban Sports mode makes this an excellent all-rounder within the full-frame hybrid arena.
Although it lacks the high-speed capabilities of the Lumix S1 II, many users will appreciate the lower cost and reduced data demands. The 5-axis stabilisation system provides excellent handheld results, and compatibility with L-Mount lenses from Leica, Sigma, Panasonic and others offers creative flexibility. For content creators, documentary filmmakers and hybrid users seeking a no-nonsense camera with pro features, the S1 IIE is a smart investment that integrates smoothly into existing setups.
