Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens Black Summary
Leica has updated the immensely popular, slightly wide standard focal width Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens in Black anodised metal finish. This focal length is ideal for a huge variety of subjects and performs flawlessly on Rangefinder cameras, where it offers a wide maximum aperture and newly improved features. You can also enjoy this M lens with Leica SL, T, and TL cameras by using the Leica M Adapter L.
Upgrades include a closer minimum focus distance as low as 40cm, which is made possible by a patent-pending double cam unit developed by Leica engineers. As a result, the rotation angle of the focus ring can be almost doubled to 176° in comparison to the previous model – with the same compact lens size.
Another enhancement is the 11-bladed aperture design, which renders improved rounded bokeh balls. The lens also features an integrated rotating lens hood, which helps not only reduce incidental light but also acts as a later of protection against accidental damage. Lastly, this M mount lens is designed and manufactured to the highest standards in Germany, ensuring robust build and longevity when maintained.

This Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens is the next generation derived from a classic 35mm Summilux Spherical version of the same model, which first appeared back in 1960. Some of the most popular uses for this focal length are street photography, portrait and reportage. However this versatile focal width is not limited and can be use for weddings, travel, landscapes as well as city architectural shots.
High performance at any aperture
Even when shooting wide open, the Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens reveals outstanding performance over the entire focusing range, from infinity to minimum focus. It also demonstrates excellent contrast, even in the finest structures, with superb levels of detail across the entire frame. When stopped down to f/2 and onwards, the lens is almost entirely free from coma effects and optical performance is maintained from this aperture on.

This updated model features an 11-bladed aperture design, which will enhance bokeh rendition and create smooth out of focus areas. Leica also engineered a double cam unit, which helps the lens to close focus to 0.4m, where the previous lens was 0.7m. Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.
