Laowa 15mm f/4.5 Zero-D Shift Lens for Canon EF Summary
New optical designers on the block Laowa are responsible for designing a series of unique lenses for Canon EF cameras, including this 15mm f/4.5 Zero-D Shift Lens. As a specialist ultra wide angle model it’s designed primarily for architectural and interior photography, where vertical lines come at a premium. These can be corrected without the need for software through an impressive +/- 11mm shift capability. The lens can also be rotated through 360º to provide straight lines in literally any direction. Other popular uses for shift lenses of this nature include landscape photography, seascapes, astro, Milky way and other subjects which suit 15mm. Laowa’s ‘Zero-D’ means results show minimal distortion whatever the subject.

High quality image results are rendered by 17 elements arranged in 11 groups with two aspherical and three Extra Low dispersion elements. When combined these control spherical and chromatic aberrations, providing sharp details throughout the frame. An ultra wide 110° angle of view allows you to capture tall building, wide outdoor scenes or bustling interiors from 20cm to infinity. Our Verdict
Converging verticals are the bane of architectural photographers who will often seek out specialist lenses of this type. Whilst there are other Canon EF lens models available, this 15mm f/4.5 Zero-D Shift Lens from Laowa offers value for money combined with excellent results. It is currently the widest shift lens for full frame cameras (although it can be used on crop sensor cameras at an equivalent of 24mm) providing an impressive shift capability. You won’t find vignetting on any body thanks to a large 65mm image circle and the lens also rotates through 360° enabling you to shift in any direction.
The optics enclosed are first class with five special elements mixed in to render sharp details, accurate colour whilst ghosting or flaring are well controlled through the use of an updated lens coating. Manual focus-only ensures you can achieve tack sharp results from f/4.5 onwards with a minimum aperture of f/22. You will be hard pushed to get much bokeh at such an ultra wide 15mm but this lens is about deep depth of field rather than shallow out of focus areas. The five bladed aperture does however create stunning 10-point Sunstars. At 597g the weight is very reasonable for what this lens can do, ideal for capturing subjects with well controlled perspectives and low distortion.

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.
