Celebrating 25 Years of Panasonic LUMIX
It’s really quite something to think that on October 27 LUMIX is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Since Panasonic introduced their first digital camera back in 2001, photography has changed enormously, and the brand has played a significant part in that evolution.
From bringing 4K video to a wider audience, and developing full-frame systems with impressive hybrid features, it has frequently tried something truly different from the crowd. Along the way, they have built a loyal following among hybrid creators and filmmakers, with several models becoming turning points in their own right.
Join us as we look back at some of the innovations that helped create this brand, along with what’s happening to mark the anniversary in 2026. A few of the older models are still available to buy used, so it’s also a good chance to revisit just how far digital photography has come over two and a half decades.
With that in mind, let’s start at the beginning…

Some Photography to Join in the Celebrations
Naturally, I didn’t need much of an excuse to contribute some of my own photographs! A selection of autumnal images are included, which were taken with a second-hand G9 II during a day out in Sussex. This is my first time using that model and it shows just how far the Micro Four Thirds system has come, with effective AF that picked out birds from a distance really well.
That’s partly down to the fact that the G9 II added Phase Hybrid AF, which was particularly welcome for photographers who capture wildlife or any fast-moving subjects really. Combined with the reach and portability of MFT lenses (I was shooting with a used Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50-200mm f/2.8-4 ASPH Power O.I.S.), this is a compelling option for anyone who wants a capable setup without the weight associated with full-frame kit.
This wasn’t intended as a review or a technical test, just a small contribution to the celebrations and a chance to see what it can produce. It’s all about getting out and trying your hand after all, and I really enjoyed shooting with this kit.

Meet With Other Creators
The 25th anniversary celebrations are travelling around the world with a new LUMIX Collective. This will be a series of events bringing photographers, filmmakers and the wider team together for workshops, hands-on experiences and in-person conversations.
Manchester kicks things off on Tuesday 17 November 2026, followed by Sydney on 20 November, Berlin on 21 November, São Paulo on 24 November, Milan on 25 November and Paris on 4 December. New York will also host an event in early December – TBC.
What makes these events interesting is the chance they offer to meet the people behind the company, share experiences with fellow creators and offer feedback directly to the team. This seems like a fitting way to involve the photographers and filmmakers who actually use the gear, and help steer the next 25 years.
If you’re interested in attending the Manchester event, registration is through the official Instagram account, with booking information on the profile page.

Compact Cameras that are Worth Celebrating
While plenty has been achieved with mirrorless systems, the brand stayed committed to compacts, even during the smartphone dominance years. From popular TZ travel zooms to the premium LX series, there’s a long history of putting together beautifully designed and capable models.
That makes the arrival of the L10 in May 2026 particularly fitting. This was a model that many photographers had been waiting for, combining a large Four Thirds sensor with a bright Leica 24-75mm F1.7-2.8 zoom lens, traditional controls and, importantly: a built-in viewfinder. It also includes features such as Phase Hybrid AF and Real Time LUTs, offering plenty of creative possibilities in a fixed-lens option. You can read our Panasonic LUMIX L10 first look review here, which has a lot more deets.

A special Titanium Gold Edition was released alongside the regular Black and Silver models. The commemorative version features a distinctive metallic gold finish and matching accessories.
We don’t currently carry the special edition, but the regular model is available in L10 Black and L10 Silver. It’s a welcome addition to the story, and a reminder that there’s still plenty of enthusiasm today, for beautifully made compact cameras.

Here’s to the Next 25 Years
It’s been a journey. From early digital compacts to the mirrorless systems we know and love today. Few could have predicted how much photography would change in 25 years, and it’s going to be very interesting to see where it takes us.
If this company has anything to do with it, the next 25 years will include plenty of innovation, more video developments and perhaps even some more world firsts.
Whether you’re a newbie or have been shooting with one for years, there’s plenty to explore. Have a look at the current Panasonic camera lineup, including the latest interchangeable lens bodies and compacts.
Happy 25th birthday, LUMIX. Here’s to many more years of great content to come!
