For working professionals, or enthusiasts who have a lot of equipment and need a hard wearing bag for hiking, adventures or expeditions, there are a number from Lowepro, Mindshift Gear or Manfrotto which may be suitable. Likewise, if a photographer has less gear, or are a casual hobbyist, there are less expensive, but equally suitable options which are designed to carry anything from a mirrorless camera kit to a full professional DSLR camera set up. Take a look at Tamrac and Vanguard for a range of choices. Billingham is a UK manufacturer who specialise in high quality, traditionally styled options. Others might consider Think Tank Photo backpacks, particularly for urban shooting or flight carry-on and travel solutions.
Choosing the ideal model generally comes down to the amount of gear which is stowed (or intended to be stowed). Pick a large or small bag accordingly. For customers unable to make it to our stores, look through the reviews which we provide regarding comfort, style, and what type of weather the backpack will be exposed to. Many are water resistant and also provide an extra rain cover to protect equipment. Modular systems are now extremely popular as they feature an internal removable storage compartment. This provides extra versatility as a camera backpack can transform into a regular rucksack when the ‘ICU’ is removed.
Protecting expensive photography gear when travelling is often why packs are favoured by photographers. They also offer more even weight distribution across the shoulders when compared to shoulder bags or toploader bags. This means they are suitable for carrying more photography equipment for longer periods of time.
