The Voigtlander 28mm f/2 Apo-Lanthar Aspherical Lens for Nikon Z mount is a manual focus wide-angle prime, which delivers apochromatic correction and Voigtlander’s most advanced optical design.
It follows the very well-regarded 35mm and 50mm Apo-Lanthar lenses, offering the same level of refinement but with a wider field of view that is perfectly suited to landscapes, street photography, documentary and general everyday shooting.
The lens features a 12-element design with six abnormal partial dispersion elements and two double-sided aspherical elements, arranged in eight groups with a floating mechanism to maintain image quality at all distances.
A wide f/2 aperture and near-circular 12-blade diaphragm allow smooth defocus while keeping contrast and sharpness under control, even when shooting wide open. The apochromatic design helps suppress colour fringing across the whole frame, which is often noticeable with wide-angle lenses, especially around fine details or high-contrast edges.
Voigtlander has maned to keep the size compact, and the Z-mount version measures just 60mm from the mount and weighs only 350g, which makes it ideal for daily use on any full-frame Nikon camera.
Electronic contacts support Exif data, in-body stabilisation (3-axis), and Nikon’s focusing aids including focus peaking, frame colour change and viewfinder magnification. A metal bayonet hood is included and can be reversed when stored. Altogether, this is a lens aimed at photographers who want the precision of a fully manual optic with premium rendering and exceptional correction of optical aberrations.

How does the apochromatic layout affect image quality?
The Apo-Lanthar 28mm f/2 uses six abnormal partial dispersion elements and two double-sided aspherical elements to minimise chromatic aberration. This apochromatic correction reduces colour fringing both at the centre and edges of the frame, which becomes especially important with high-resolution Nikon Z sensors.
The floating mechanism maintains this level of correction from the 0.28m minimum distance through to infinity, giving consistent sharpness at any focusing point.
What does the 12-blade diaphragm achieve?
Voigtländer’s 12-blade aperture produces a near-circular opening, which renders point light sources clean and rounded. The f/2 aperture also gives you the flexibility to shoot handheld in low light and adds separation without introducing aberrations. This ensures that this lens suitable for scenes where fine detail, colour control and natural transitions are advantageous.
How is handling and manual focusing with the lens?
The 28mm f/2 Apo-Lanthar lens has an all-metal barrel for rigidity, and a smooth manual focus ring that invites accurate focus adjustment. Nikon bodies support three focusing aids through the lens contacts with a frame colour change, focus peaking and viewfinder magnification.
These can be triggered by turning the focus ring, allowing you to confirm focus quickly in both stills and video. The aperture ring moves in one-third stops, and can be switched to a clickless setting for video recording.
The result is a high-quality feel, very nicely damped manual focus and a reassuringly solid feeling lens.
What benefits does the Z-mount version offer?
The Nikon Z-mount model is compact at 60mm long and weighs 350g. Electronic communication supports Exif recording and 3-axis in-body stabilisation for steady handheld shots. The supplied metal bayonet hood can be reversed for storage.

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
