Product Summary
Galaxies, nebulae and star clusters reveal more detail in less time when two 80 mm imaging modules work on the same target together. Sky Twin technology combines both modules’ images automatically, giving the light-gathering power of two and equivalent results in roughly half the imaging time. On a clear night, that means deeper, cleaner images before the clouds roll in.
Everything else is automated. Alignment, focusing, tracking and live stacking run from your smartphone, while the Sky Guard all-sky camera lets you pick a target on an interactive map and send the mount straight to it. CovalENS mosaic imaging stitches wider scenes up to 24 MP, ideal for the larger nebulae and multi-night projects that reward extra exposure. It is the fullest expression of the Atlas system, built on a modular platform with tool-free module connections and a 10-year mount warranty.
Optics: Sharp, Colour-True Deep-Sky Detail
A corrected-Petzval design with four optical elements keeps stars tight and colour clean across the frame. Two fluorophosphate elements and one lanthanum element minimise chromatic aberration, and the system is diffraction-limited across the visible spectrum and entire field, with residual aberrations smaller than the diffraction blur of the aperture.
The 1.78° × 1.00° native field suits a wide range of deep-sky targets, and the fast F4.5 focal ratio gathers light efficiently.
Sensor: Built for Faint Light
A back-illuminated 1/1.2-inch Sony IMX585 STARVIS 2 colour sensor sits directly in each module, its 2.9 µm pixels giving strong sensitivity to faint subjects. Frames are recorded at 3840 × 2160 pixels and combined live, so detail builds steadily through the session.
Export ready-to-share 8-bit JPEGs, or 16-bit FITS and TIFF files for your own processing workflow.
Sky Guard: See the Whole Sky, Then Go There
A dedicated Sony IMX676 12 MP camera with a 185° fisheye lens shows the sky from horizon to horizon and identifies stars and constellations. The Gaia app overlays celestial information on that view, so one tap on an object sends the mount straight to it.
Flip between the interactive sky map and your developing image, or record an automatic timelapse of the night.
Simple Set-Up, Intelligent Operation
An integrated accelerometer and illuminated LED ring guide levelling, then the app takes over alignment, target selection and automation. The motorised alt-azimuth mount tracks with precision stepper motors, a belt drive and a worm gear, while autofocus and live stacking reveal more detail as the observation continues.
Exposures run up to 30 seconds per frame in the standard configuration, with equatorial operation planned for a future update.
CovalENS Mosaics and Multi-Night Projects
Overlapping frames are captured and assembled automatically, widening the field to as much as 3.5° × 2° and producing mosaics up to 24 MP. It suits larger nebulae and compositions a single frame cannot hold.
Multi-night acquisition lets you return to a target and keep adding exposure time over several sessions.
Modular by Design: Sky Dock and Sky Twin
Modules connect in under five seconds with no tools and no manual alignment. Each of the two 80 mm modules has its own optics and sensor, and both work together on the same celestial target. Sky Twin combines their views automatically, collecting twice the light and delivering equivalent results in approximately half the time.
Specialised planetary and monochrome modules are also planned.
Built for Real Nights Outdoors
A die-cast internal chassis keeps tracking accurate, and the machined aluminium outer structure protects the instrument in transit and in use. IP64-rated protection guards against dust and water splashes, with an operating range of -20°C to +40°C. An integrated humidity and temperature sensor controls automatic dew heating to keep the optics clear.

Our Expert's View
“Vaonis helped pioneer smart telescopes with Stellina over eight years ago, and the technology has come a remarkable distance since. With increasingly impressive competition from other manufacturers, Atlas looks like an exciting return to the forefront. Its imaging specifications are exceptional for a smart telescope, and I can't wait to get my hands on one.”

Frequently asked questions
Do I need astronomy experience?
No. Levelling is guided by the LED ring and accelerometer, and the app handles alignment, target selection, focusing and tracking. Choose an object and the system does the rest.
Can the two modules image different targets?
No. Both modules work on the same celestial target, with Sky Twin combining their images automatically. They cannot be directed towards separate objects.
Does it cope with cold or damp conditions?
It is specified from -20°C to +40°C, with automatic dew heating and IP64 protection against dust and splashes. It is not intended for prolonged exposure to rain.
Can I use it under light-polluted skies?
Yes, with realistic expectations. Live stacking builds up faint detail, and the filter drawers accept standard 1.25-inch filters, including compatible light-pollution filters. Darker skies still deliver the best results.
Can several people follow along?
Yes. Multiple smartphones can connect at once, making it easy to share an observing session with family or friends.
How long does the battery last with both modules?
Vaonis quotes up to six hours with one module attached but has not specified a runtime for the dual-module configuration. The battery is replaceable, and the system supports USB-C Power Delivery.
