Tascam XLR Microphone Adapter for Canon Mirrorless Cameras Summary

The Tascam XLR Microphone Adapter for Canon Mirrorless Cameras (CA-XLR2d-C) is a two-channel XLR microphone adapter for Canon mirrorless cameras, allowing external microphones to connect directly to the camera via the digital accessory shoe. Audio is transmitted digitally to the camera, avoiding additional analogue conversion.

It sits within Tascam’s camera audio range as a compact preamp and interface that mounts directly to the camera body. Two XLR/TRS inputs and a 3.5mm input support a wide range of microphones, including shotgun, lavalier and line-level sources.

High-performance HDDA preamps provide low-noise operation with an equivalent input noise of -120 dBu, while selectable attenuation, limiter and low-cut filtering allow input signals to be controlled at source. Power is supplied directly from compatible Canon cameras via the accessory shoe, removing the need for separate batteries in digital mode.

Tascam XLR Microphone Adapter for Canon Mirrorless Cameras In More Detail

Digital audio interface

Audio is transferred directly to compatible Canon cameras through the accessory shoe as a digital signal. This removes the need for analogue cabling and avoids additional conversion stages before recording.

XLR inputs

Two balanced XLR/TRS inputs support microphones and line-level sources. Each input includes selectable gain, attenuation and phantom power at 48V for condenser microphones.

Auxiliary input

A 3.5mm stereo input allows connection of lavalier microphones, wireless receivers or plug-in powered microphones. Plug-in power is available at 2.7V.

Built-in processing

Input signals can be controlled using onboard switches for low-cut filtering, limiter and auto-level. Input channels can be linked for stereo operation, allowing unified control of gain and processing.

Monitoring and output

The 3.5mm output supports two modes. Camera mode sends audio to a camera input, while headphone mode allows direct monitoring. Output level is adjustable depending on configuration.

Flexible mounting

The unit mounts directly to the camera via the accessory shoe and includes a top-mounted cold shoe for additional accessories. A detachable microphone holder with shock mount supports on-camera microphones.

Analogue compatibility

When used with the included battery holder and 3.5mm cable, the adapter can connect to cameras without a digital accessory shoe. This allows use with a wider range of cameras while retaining preamp and processing functions.
