Tascam Stereo Handheld Recorder Summary
The DR-07XP is a portable stereo handheld audio recorder with built-in adjustable microphones and internal recording to microSD cards. It captures two-channel audio for music, video production, interviews and field recording.
It sits within Tascam’s handheld recorder range as a flexible option with 32-bit float recording and adjustable microphone positioning. The microphones can be configured in AB or XY layouts, allowing control over stereo width and localisation depending on the recording scenario.

Tascam Stereo Handheld Recorder In More Detail
Adjustable stereo microphones
The built-in condenser microphones can be positioned in AB or XY configurations. AB placement increases stereo width for ambient recordings, while XY provides a more focused image with improved mono compatibility.
32-bit float recording
Recording in 32-bit float preserves detail across a wide dynamic range, allowing levels to be adjusted after recording. This reduces the need to set precise input levels before capture.
Recording formats
The recorder supports WAV recording at 16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit float with sample rates up to 96kHz. MP3 recording is also available from 32 to 320 kbit/s at 44.1 or 48kHz.
Input and external sources
A 3.5mm stereo input supports external microphones and line-level sources, including plug-in powered microphones. This allows connection of lavalier microphones or wireless receivers when required.
Recording functions
The recorder includes pre-record buffering, automatic recording triggered by input level and punch-in overwrite recording. Overdub recording allows additional layers to be added without replacing the original file.
Playback and monitoring
A built-in speaker allows quick playback, while the headphone output supports monitoring during recording. Playback controls include variable speed audition, loop playback and resume functions.
USB audio interface
The unit operates as a 2-in/2-out USB-C audio interface for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android devices. This supports recording directly into software or using the recorder as a USB microphone.
