Sony ZV-1 II Camera Summary

The Sony ZV-1 II is a compact hybrid camera with a 20.1MP one-inch sensor and an 18-50mm equivalent ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* zoom lens. It suits creators, travellers and photographers who want a capable all-in-one compact camera without the need to change lenses.

The wider zoom range makes it easier to capture group shots, handheld video and broader scenes, while Real-time Eye AF, Product Showcase Mode and the Background Defocus button cover common creator shooting tasks. With 4K video, Full HD slow motion, a directional three-capsule microphone and USB streaming support, it balances portability with a broad feature set.

Overview And Key Improvements

The most significant update to the ZV-1 II is its wider 18-50mm equivalent ZEISS zoom lens, replacing the previous 24-70mm range to capture more of a scene when filming handheld, recording group shots or creating travel content. Sony has also introduced a more intuitive touchscreen experience alongside Cinematic Vlog settings, Creative Looks and selectable microphone directivity.

Additional updates include animal Eye AF support, expanded audio control through the upgraded three-capsule microphone and improved tools such as Product Showcase Mode, making the ZV-1 II easier to use across photography, video, streaming and social media content.

Sony ZV-1 II Camera In More Detail

Wider 18-50mm ZEISS Zoom Lens

The ZV-1 II features a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 18-50mm equivalent zoom lens, providing a wider starting focal length than the original model. This makes it easier to capture handheld videos, group shots, travel scenes and interiors without needing to step further back from the subject. The zoom range also reaches into portrait territory, giving creators flexibility across a wide range of shooting situations.

One-Inch Sensor Image Quality

A 20.1MP one-inch Exmor RS sensor captures more light than a typical smartphone sensor, helping to produce natural background blur, improved low-light performance and greater tonal detail. Combined with Sony's BIONZ X processor, the camera delivers detailed still images and oversampled 4K video from a compact all-in-one body.

Creative Tools For Photos And Video

The ZV-1 II includes Creative Looks and Cinematic Vlog settings, making it easy to adjust the appearance of photos and videos directly in-camera. The Background Defocus button provides quick control over depth of field, while Product Showcase Mode automatically shifts focus between the presenter and an object held in front of the lens, which is particularly useful for reviews and demonstrations.

Fast And Reliable Autofocus

Sony's Real-time Eye AF tracks people and animals during both still image capture and video recording. Combined with Real-time Tracking, the autofocus system helps maintain accurate focus as subjects move around the frame, reducing the need for manual adjustments while filming.

Audio, Streaming And Sharing

The upgraded three-capsule microphone offers selectable directivity, allowing users to prioritise sound from the front, rear or all directions depending on the recording situation. The supplied windscreen helps reduce wind noise outdoors, while UVC/UAC support enables direct livestreaming without additional capture hardware. Wireless connectivity also makes it easy to transfer content to a smartphone for editing and sharing.

Our Verdict

The second generation compact all-in-one camera from Sony is a nice evolution of the original, gaining a wider ZEISS zoom lens, which is better for vlogging, selfies, group shots and to capture more of the background. Sony has also added several upgrades, which make it easier to capture and share great content.

You can record smooth electronically stabilised 4K 30p video and high-speed 120p in Full HD for slow motion effects, with newly added style presets for various recording situations. These include Product Showcase, Bokeh Switch and Cinematic Vlog Settings, all of which contribute to higher production values and brilliant content for your audience.

The 3-capsule mic now provides selectable directional audio recording, which ensures you can capture crystal clear sound, whichever direction it’s coming from. Creative Looks have also been added alongside My Image Style, which save time when creating your own distinct video style.

Live streaming via a computer or smartphone is a piece of cake thanks to a new USB-C connection, there’s an HDMI Micro connector and the camera can be used as a webcam for meetings and presentations.

The Sony ZV-1 II is a well considered upgrade over the original, which makes it easier to capture and share great quality content with your audience.
