Sony A7 IV Camera with 28-70mm OSS II Lens Kit In More Detail
33MP full-frame sensor
The 33 megapixel back-illuminated sensor provides a balance between resolution and readout speed. This supports detailed still images with cropping flexibility while maintaining performance for continuous shooting and video recording. Oversampled 4K uses full pixel readout to improve detail and reduce artefacts.
The sensor supports a wide ISO range from ISO 100 to 51,200, expandable for both stills and video. Dynamic range reaches approximately 15 stops at lower ISO settings, maintaining detail across highlights and shadows.
Autofocus tracking system
Autofocus uses phase and contrast detection across a wide area of the frame, supporting subject detection for people, animals and birds. Real-time tracking maintains focus as subjects move. Eye autofocus operates in both stills and video.
The system uses 759 phase detection points covering approximately 94 percent of the image area, maintaining focus accuracy across the frame.
Continuous shooting performance
Continuous shooting reaches up to 10 frames per second with autofocus and exposure tracking. This supports sequences for movement including street, events and general action. Buffer performance depends on file type and card speed.
4K video recording
Video recording supports 4K 60p in Super 35 and 4K 30p oversampled from 7K full-frame capture. 10-bit 4:2:2 recording supports colour grading workflows. S-Log3 and S-Cinetone provide options for post-production and direct output.
S-Cinetone colour is available for video, producing natural skin tones and controlled highlight roll-off without extensive grading.
Camera operation
Shooting settings are stored independently for stills and video modes, allowing quick switching between workflows without resetting exposure or autofocus settings. A revised menu structure and touch control improve navigation and subject selection. The NP-FZ100 battery supports up to approximately 610 still images per charge.
In-body stabilisation system
5-axis stabilisation compensates for camera movement during handheld shooting. This supports slower shutter speeds for stills and more stable video recording. The system works alongside lens stabilisation where available.
A heat-dissipating internal structure maintains stable operating temperatures during extended recording sessions, supporting longer video capture without interruption.
28-70mm zoom range
The 28-70mm focal range covers commonly used framing, from wide scenes at 28mm to tighter compositions at 70mm. This supports general photography including travel, street and portraits without changing lenses.
Lens optical design
The updated optical construction improves sharpness across the frame, with more consistent edge performance. This maintains clarity at wider focal lengths and towards the edges. The design also controls aberrations in typical shooting conditions.
Autofocus motor performance
A linear motor drives autofocus, supporting responsive subject acquisition for stills and quiet operation during video recording. Focus transitions remain smooth during video capture.
Optical SteadyShot stabilisation
The lens includes optical stabilisation which provides additional correction when shooting handheld, particularly at longer focal lengths. This supports more stable framing for stills and video.
Variable aperture
The f/3.5-5.6 aperture keeps the lens compact and lightweight. Exposure changes across the zoom range, which is managed automatically or manually depending on shooting mode.
Sony E-mount system
The camera uses the Sony E mount, supporting a wide range of full-frame lenses. Electronic communication between lens and body supports autofocus, stabilisation and exposure control across compatible lenses.
