Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens For Canon RF Mount in More Detail
Super sharp optical design
At under 300g this is an extremely lightweight lens, yet the 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary delivers fantastic optical quality at all aperture values, including when shooting wide open at f/2.8. Optical performance is maintained across the entire frame, with excellent levels of detail right into the corners of the image.
The lens has an optical design made up of 13 elements in 10 groups, including 4 aspherical elements, 1 SLD element and 3 FLD elements. These deliver sharp results and work together with in-camera corrections to eliminate chromatic aberration, flare, distortion and vignetting.
Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating also helps to reduce flare and ghosting when shooting in bright sunlight and backlighting, which is particularly important at the wider end of the zoom range.

Built tough for on-the-go creators
As with other Sigma lenses, the 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary has a barrel made from a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC). As well as being stylish and strong, this material has a similar thermal expansion rate to aluminium, meaning that the metal interior of the lens and the TSC exterior behave in the same way as temperature changes.
An internal focus mechanism ensures the lens always remains the same length when the subject distance changes. This makes it well suited to gimbal use due to a relatively constant centre of gravity, and it also means the end of the lens doesn’t rotate when focusing, which is ideal when shooting with camera lens filters.

Fast, quiet and accurate focus
A stepping motor delivers smooth, fast and accurate AF for both stills and video. The lens also features lighter glass elements in the focus lens group, which ensure responsive autofocus that is fully compatible with all the latest camera technology found in Canon cameras. A durable brass mount is surrounded by a rubber seal to help keep out dust and moisture too, resulting in the perfect ultra wide travel lens, which you can vlog with and capture everyday snapshots.
Great for close-up content
The Sigma 10-18mm lens has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4, giving it a minimum working distance (sensor to the front of the lens) of just 11.6cm. This makes it a great option for close-up photography to capture subjects like food, insects, flowers and other macro-style subjects.

Well controlled distortion
Lens distortion is virtually eliminated across the whole zoom range in this Sigma Contemporary lens. A combination of optical correction and in-camera digital correction ensures that straight lines such as the horizon or the sides of buildings remain straight in your shots, for a more realistic result.
Complementary lenses
When paired with the previously launched Sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens For Canon RF Mount creators gain a lightweight duo of portable zooms covering ultra wide to short telephoto ranges. Between these two lenses you can capture virtually any subject including video, and travel.

Our Verdict
The arrival of the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens continues the new chapter for Canon’s RF Mount system. It is the second native RF lens from Sigma, designed to take full advantage of the advanced focus capabilities in crop sensor cameras like the EOS R7 and R10.
Sigma has a well earned reputation for producing compact, lightweight, and high-quality optics at affordable prices, and the 10-18mm f/2.8 continues that tradition. Part of Sigma’s Contemporary lineup, which is the most portable range, this lens is ideal for photographers and hybrid creators who value portability without compromising on image quality.
Despite being the world’s smallest and lightest zoom lens for this class, it delivers superb results with sharp details across the frame, even when shooting wide open at f/2.8. The constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range also allows for low-light, handheld shooting in dimly lit or near-dark environments.
With a full-frame equivalent focal length of 15-27mm, this model offers an ultra-wide range suitable for a variety of genres, including landscape photography, interiors, video, and vlogging. Whatever your subject, this ultra-light zoom can be stowed in your camera bag, always ready for when inspiration strikes.
