Product Overview
This compact superzoom prioritises reach and portability, with wide-angle through to super-telephoto coverage in a 322g body. It particularly suits travel, family days out and everyday photography where a phone may not provide enough optical reach, but carrying an interchangeable-lens camera and several lenses is inconvenient.
RAW capture and P, A, S and M exposure modes provide additional photographic control, while Face/Eye Detection AF helps when photographing people. Other useful features include 4K Photo, Post Focus and Focus Stacking, together with a tilting touchscreen for high, low and self-facing compositions.

In more detail
30x Leica Superzoom
The Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens covers a 24-720mm equivalent range when shooting 4:3 stills, with an f/3.3-6.4 maximum aperture. This extends from wide-angle views for landscapes, interiors and groups through to substantial telephoto reach for wildlife, landmarks and distant details.
The optical zoom is 30x, while up to 60x Intelligent Zoom extends reach electronically. This combination prioritises focal-length range in a small body rather than the low-light performance and shallower depth of field available from larger-sensor premium compacts.
Zoom Compose Assist helps when tracking subjects at longer focal lengths. Press and hold the assigned button to temporarily zoom out and relocate the subject, then release it to return to the previous magnification.
Autofocus, Close-Ups and Stabilisation
Face/Eye Detection AF helps identify people within the frame, with tracking available for moving subjects. Other options include 49-area, Custom Multi, 1-area and Pinpoint AF.
The lens can focus from 3cm at the wide end in supported modes, providing useful close-up capability without a separate macro lens. Post Focus allows the focus area to be selected after capture, while Focus Stacking combines images focused at different distances to increase depth of field for subjects where a single frame may not provide sufficient front-to-back sharpness.
5-Axis Hybrid O.I.S.+ compensates for camera movement during supported shooting modes and is particularly useful towards the telephoto end of the zoom. Five-axis compensation does not operate during 4K video recording.
Stills and 4K Photo
Still images can be recorded as JPEG, RAW or RAW+JPEG, with in-camera RAW processing also available. Continuous shooting reaches 10fps with AFS or 5fps with AFC.
4K Photo records at 30fps for selecting an 8MP frame after capture, with 4K Burst, Start/Stop and Pre-Burst modes available. This provides another way to capture brief moments where timing a single exposure can be difficult.
4K and Full HD Video
Video recording includes 4K at 30p or 25p at 100Mbps, with individual 4K recordings limited to 15 minutes. Full HD is available at up to 60p, while High Speed Video uses 1280 × 720 recording with 120fps sensor output for slow-motion playback.
Framing changes significantly when switching to 4K. Panasonic specifies approximately 35-1050mm equivalent coverage for 4K video and 4K Photo, compared with 24-720mm for 4:3 stills. This provides greater apparent telephoto reach but removes some of the wide-angle field of view.
Vertical Video Shooting supports portrait-orientation content, while the REC Frame Indicator provides a clear visual indication when recording is active.
Screen, Connectivity and Power
The 3.0-inch, 1,840k-dot touchscreen tilts for low-angle, high-angle and self-facing shooting. A dedicated Send Image button provides quick access to smartphone transfer.
USB-C supports in-camera battery charging, with DMW-BLG10 battery life rated at approximately 380 images under CIPA testing. Recording is to SD memory cards.

Our Verdict
The main reason to choose this camera is the broad optical range it provides in such a small package. A 24mm equivalent wide angle covers landscapes, interiors and group shots, while the 720mm equivalent telephoto end reaches distant subjects that smartphones and many larger-sensor compacts cannot cover optically. For travel, family photography and days out, that versatility can remove the need to carry several lenses or a larger camera system.
There is a trade-off. The 1/2.3-inch sensor and f/3.3-6.4 lens prioritise zoom range and portability rather than the low-light performance and subject separation available from larger-sensor models. Buyers who prioritise those qualities can compare alternatives in our Lumix compact cameras range.
For photographers who prioritise reach and portability, RAW capture and manual exposure controls provide more scope than a basic point-and-shoot, while the 322g body keeps the camera highly portable.
