Panasonic Lumix S 40mm f/2 Lens In More Detail
40mm focal length
The 40mm focal length provides a natural perspective that sits between wider 35mm and tighter 50mm lenses. This supports general photography including street scenes, environmental portraits and everyday subjects. Framing remains flexible without the distortion of wider lenses or compression of longer focal lengths.
F2 aperture
The F2 maximum aperture allows control over depth of field, producing soft background separation when shooting portraits or close subjects. It also supports faster shutter speeds in lower light conditions without increasing ISO unnecessarily.
Compact optical design
The lens measures approximately 40.9mm in length and weighs around 144g, maintaining a compact form factor. This supports portability for everyday shooting and travel, particularly when paired with smaller full-frame bodies.
Video features
Focus breathing is suppressed to maintain consistent framing during focus transitions. Micro-step aperture control supports smooth exposure changes, reducing visible stepping when adjusting brightness during video recording.
Handling and control
A control ring allows direct adjustment of settings such as aperture, while a focus button supports quick operation during shooting. These controls provide tactile input without relying solely on camera menus.
Weather resistance
The lens includes dust- and splash-resistant construction, supporting use in changing outdoor conditions. This maintains reliability without increasing size or weight significantly.
L-mount Design
The lens uses the L-mount system, supporting full-frame cameras from Panasonic, Leica and Sigma. Electronic communication between lens and body supports autofocus, exposure control and video operation across compatible systems.
