Nikon Z5 II with Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 Zoom Lens Kit Summary

The Nikon Z5 II with Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 Zoom Lens Kit combines a full-frame mirrorless camera with a wide-to-telephoto zoom in a single, hybrid setup. It fits in Nikon’s Z-series below the Z6 line, offering strong photo and video capability without the size or cost of higher-end bodies.

The Z5 II captures 24.5MP stills with in-body stabilisation and supports 4K video recording, making it suitable for both photo and video content creation. Autofocus uses subject detection for people and animals, maintaining focus during continuous shooting and video. The included 24-105mm zoom covers general-purpose focal lengths so you can capture landscapes to portraits, with optical stabilisation working alongside the camera’s sensor-based system.

This Nikon zoom lens kit is ideal for photographers and hybrid creators who want full-frame image quality, modern autofocus and versatile zoom reach in a approachable package, without moving into professional-level bodies or specialist lenses.

Nikon Z5 II Key Features

  • Full-frame 24.5MP sensor with detailed stills with manageable file sizes
  • In-body image stabilisation rated up to 5 stops for stills and video
  • Hybrid autofocus system with subject detection for people and animals
  • Continuous shooting supports subject tracking
  • 4K video recording using the full width of the sensor
  • Electronic viewfinder provides real-time exposure and focus preview
  • Dual SD card slots for flexible backup or overflow recording

Nikon Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 Key Features

  • Popular 24-105mm focal range covering everyday shooting needs
  • Optical image stabilisation supports handheld shooting
  • Variable aperture f/4-7.1 keeps size and weight compact
  • Quiet autofocus suitable for video recording
  • Close focusing captures detail shots
  • Compact size balances well on the Z5 II body

With the 24-105mm attached, the kit is well balanced for handheld shooting. Stabilisation allows for slower shutter speeds at longer focal lengths, while autofocus is responsive during continuous bursts and video recording.

Image quality and stabilisation

The Z5 II has a 24.5MP full-frame sensor paired with in-body image stabilisation rated at up to 5 stops. This allows handheld shooting at slower shutter speeds, which is particularly useful at the long end of the 24-105mm zoom. When combined with the lens’s optical stabilisation, camera shake is further reduced, which benefits low-light photography and handheld video.

Image files show consistent colour and good dynamic range for post-processing. The sensor resolution strikes a balance between detail and file size, keeping storage demands manageable while retaining enough latitude for cropping.

Autofocus with subject tracking

Autofocus is driven by a hybrid phase-detection system covering a large portion of the frame. Subject detection recognises people and animals, maintaining focus during movement across the frame. During continuous shooting, focus tracking remains stable rather than hunting between frames, which supports action sequences and informal wildlife use.

In video mode, autofocus transitions are smooth and predictable, avoiding abrupt focus jumps that can distract in recorded footage.

Video performance

The camera records N-RAW direct to SD card and 4K video internally, using the full width of the sensor rather than a crop. This preserves the effective focal length of the 24-105mm lens, which is helpful for wide-angle video. Footage is recorded to SD cards, keeping workflows simple and compatible with common editing systems.

Stabilisation is active during video recording, reducing micro-jitters when shooting handheld. For static shots, stabilisation can be combined with digital correction for further steadiness.

Lens performance and zoom coverage

The Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 lens provides good focal length coverage despite the compact form. At the wide end, it’s suitable for landscape and environmental subjects, while the telephoto end suits portraits and details. The variable aperture reflects its size and weight, but stabilisation compensates in real-world use by allowing for slower shutter speeds, even in low light.

Autofocus is quiet and effective, making the lens suitable for video without audible focus noise. Close-focusing supports semi-macro style shots for product or detail photography.

Handling

Controls on the Z5 II are intuitively laid out, with customisable buttons allowing quick access to focus modes and stabilisation settings. The grip provides secure handling with the 24-105mm attached, and the electronic viewfinder gives a clear preview of exposure and colour before capture.

Battery life supports extended stills sessions, while video recording times align with typical hybrid shooting needs rather than long-form production.
