Leica M11-P Camera Metal Grey Paint Finish Summary
The Leica M11-P in Metal Grey Paint finish is a full-frame digital rangefinder within Leica's flagship M-System range, suited to photographers who prefer deliberate, manual shooting with compact M-lenses. The finish is a permanent standard colour option alongside black chrome and silver, rather than a limited edition release.
The 60MP BSI CMOS sensor supports Triple Resolution Technology, enabling RAW capture at 60MP, 36MP or 18MP to suit different workflow and storage requirements. 256GB of internal memory sits alongside UHS-II SD card support, a practical combination for travel, documentary and editorial work where carrying multiple cards is inconvenient.
The Metal Grey Paint Finish pairs a muted body tone with matching black controls, engraved Leica top plate branding and a textured leather covering shared with the Q3 and D-Lux 8. The camera remains fully compatible with the current M lens system and M11 accessories.
Overview And Key Improvements
The Metal Grey Paint Finish is a permanent addition to the M11-P lineup. The finish introduces engraved Leica branding, black controls and a revised leather covering shared with newer Leica models. Coordinated accessories include a colour-matched BP-SCL7 battery Metal Grey, leather strap and M11 body protectors for photographers building a cohesive M-System kit.
Leica M11-P Digital Rangefinder Camera Metal Grey Paint Finish In More Detail
Content Credentials
The Leica M11-P was the first camera to integrate Content Credentials support using standards from the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and C2PA. Each image can include encrypted metadata and a digital signature, allowing photographers, publishers and clients to verify image provenance and confirm whether edits have been made after capture.
This functionality is particularly relevant for documentary, editorial and commercial workflows where image authenticity and traceability are increasingly important. Verification can be performed through the Leica FOTOS app or via the Content Credentials verification platform.
60MP Full-Frame Sensor
The M11-P uses the same back-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor found across the Leica M11 family, paired with Triple Resolution Technology offering 60MP, 36MP and 18MP RAW capture modes. This allows photographers to prioritise either maximum detail, smaller file sizes or faster workflow handling depending on the assignment.
The native ISO 64 to 50,000 range, combined with the Maestro III processor, supports handheld photography across a wide range of lighting conditions while maintaining the distinct rendering characteristics associated with Leica M lenses. The rangefinder shooting experience remains fully manual and highly deliberate, which continues to appeal to photographers who prefer direct control over autofocus-driven operation.
Metal Grey Paint Finish
This version introduces a new Metal Grey Paint Finish as a permanent addition to the standard Leica M11-P range rather than a limited edition model. The finish is paired with black controls, engraved Leica top plate branding and a textured leather covering shared with the Leica Q3 and D-Lux 8.
The understated appearance continues Leica’s minimalist M-System approach, removing the red Leica dot in favour of a more discreet exterior. Matching accessories including the BP-SCL7 battery, protectors and leather carrying strap are also available for photographers building a coordinated kit.
Sapphire Glass Display
The rear touchscreen display uses scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass with an anti-reflective coating to improve visibility in bright outdoor conditions. The display also covers 100% of the sRGB colour space, allowing more accurate review of colour, sharpness and exposure directly in camera.
Combined with the simplified Leica menu structure and customisable controls, the camera maintains a streamlined operating experience centred around manual photography rather than extensive automated shooting modes.
Internal Storage And Workflow
Alongside its UHS-II SD card slot, the M11-P includes 256GB of internal memory, allowing photographers to record files internally, externally or simultaneously to both storage locations. This can simplify longer shooting days and provides an additional level of redundancy without relying entirely on removable media.
Wireless transfer via Bluetooth Low Energy and direct USB-C connectivity support integration with the Leica FOTOS app, where images can be transferred, reviewed and remotely controlled from a mobile device. The camera also supports tethered shooting over USB-C with compatible applications including Capture One Pro and Adobe Lightroom, which is useful for studio, archive and commercial workflows.
Leica M-System Compatibility
The M11-P remains compatible with Leica’s extensive M-Mount lens lineup, spanning compact wide-angle, standard and telephoto primes across multiple generations. This Metal Grey Paint Finish version can also be paired with the matching Leica APO Summicron M 50mm f/2 ASPH Metal Grey Paint Finish lens for a coordinated rangefinder setup. Compared to larger mirrorless systems, the M-System continues to prioritise compact handling, manual focusing precision and a more direct connection between photographer and subject.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the "P" stand for in a Leica camera?
The "P" designation indicates a more discreet professional finish, replacing the red Leica logo with engraved top plate branding, adding sapphire glass display protection and removing exterior badging.
Is the Metal Grey Paint Finish version technically identical to the black and silver models?
Yes. The sensor, processor, internal storage, rangefinder system and workflow features are shared across all M11-P colour variants.
What resolution options does Triple Resolution Technology offer?
RAW capture is available at 60.3MP, 36.5MP or 18.4MP, allowing photographers to balance image quality, file size and workflow requirements.
Does shooting at maximum resolution always produce better results?
Higher resolution captures finer detail and allows greater cropping flexibility. Lower resolution modes reduce file size and can suit faster workflows depending on subject and output requirements.
Can the camera be used without an SD card?
Yes. The 256GB internal memory allows the camera to record images without an SD card installed.
Which lenses are compatible?
The camera accepts Leica M-Mount lenses, including current and many legacy M lenses. Six-bit coded lenses enable automatic lens detection and metadata recording.
Is it suited to travel and documentary photography?
Its compact full-frame body, manual rangefinder handling and internal storage make it practical for travel, documentary, street and editorial photographers.
What connectivity does it offer?
USB-C tethered shooting, Bluetooth Low Energy transfer, Apple MFI compatibility and Leica FOTOS integration are all supported, alongside Content Credentials for image authenticity verification.

Our Verdict
The Leica M11-P in Metal Grey Paint delivers the measured, manual shooting experience the M-System is known for, while the finish itself feels more contemporary and visually cohesive than the standard black or silver options. Paired with the matching BP-SCL7 battery, leather strap and Metal Grey APO Summicron, the system takes on a more unified character that will appeal to photographers who care about how a kit looks and handles as a whole.
The 60MP sensor, Content Credentials support and 256GB internal storage give the camera genuine technical depth, but the M11-P is most at home with photographers who value the physical process of shooting as much as the resulting image. Documentary, travel, editorial and long-term personal project work suit it particularly well, where compact handling and manual control remain central rather than incidental.
