GoPro MISSION 1 Compact Cinema Camera Summary
The GoPro MISSION 1 Compact Cinema Camera uses the same 50MP one-inch sensor and GP3 processor as the flagship model, delivering high-resolution video, strong low-light performance and extended recording in a compact body. It sits below the MISSION 1 PRO, with a reduced set of video frame rates while maintaining the same imaging pipeline.
MISSION 1 supports up to 8K30 video, 4K120 slow motion and high-speed 1080p capture, alongside 4K120 Open Gate recording using the full sensor area. The sensor and processing combination maintains detail across highlights and shadows, with up to 14 stops of dynamic range.
The camera is waterproof to 20m without housing and supports extended recording, with over five hours at 1080p30 and more than three hours at 4K30 on a single charge. It suits filmmakers and content creators who want the same core image quality as the PRO model, with lower maximum frame rates.
GoPro MISSION 1 Compact Cinema Camera In More Detail
50MP One-Inch Sensor
The camera uses a one-inch sensor with a 50 megapixel resolution, combining 1.6µm native pixels with larger fused pixels in Quad Bayer mode. This increases light capture while maintaining detail across the frame, with support for up to 14 stops of dynamic range.
The GP3 processor is built on a 5nm architecture and includes an integrated neural processor for image processing. This supports video encoding, noise reduction and tonal balance while maintaining power efficiency during extended recording.
8K Video Capture
The MISSION 1 records 8K video at up to 30 frames per second in a 16:9 format. It shares the same imaging pipeline as the PRO model, with a lower maximum frame rate.
High Frame Rate Recording
High-speed recording includes up to 120fps at 4K and up to 240fps in 1080p. The camera does not include the higher frame rate modes available on the PRO model.
Open Gate Video Recording
Open Gate recording uses the full sensor area in a 4:3 format, supporting 4K120 capture for flexible reframing across multiple aspect ratios.
Colour and Bitrate Control
The camera supports 10-bit colour recording with GP-Log2 and HLG HDR profiles. Bitrates can reach up to 240Mbps, with timecode sync available for multi-camera workflows.
Audio Capture
Audio is recorded through a four-microphone array designed to capture stereo sound while reducing wind interference. The system supports 32-bit float recording reducing clipping, with Bluetooth connectivity for wireless audio input.
Capture Modes
The camera includes multiple capture modes tailored to different scenarios, including:
- Video
- Low Light
- Slo-Mo
- HLG HDR
- Subject Tracking
- Looping
- Endurance
Each mode adjusts processing and exposure settings to suit specific shooting conditions.
Connectivity
The camera supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless control and data transfer. It connects to the GoPro Quik app for remote operation, media management and cloud backup.
Battery and Thermal Performance
The GP3 processor and updated battery system support extended recording times, with over five hours at 1080p30 and more than three hours at 4K30.
Waterproof Design
The camera is waterproof to 20 metres without requiring additional housing. A separate housing extends this depth further for specialised use.
Body Design
The camera uses a compact rectangular body with an integrated ultra-wide lens positioned within a squared front housing. A removable lens hood surrounds the front element, providing protection and helping reduce glare.
The outer shell features a textured finish with visible water beading, and the rounded edges maintain a low-profile shape for handheld use. A front-facing display sits alongside the lens for framing and status monitoring.
Controls and Display
A top-mounted shutter button provides direct access during handheld shooting, with a raised side power and mode button for simple operation. The rear OLED display is larger than previous models, supporting clear monitoring and playback.
