Fujifilm XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR Lens in More Detail

Switch from continuous AF to manual AF while recording

The Fujifilm XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR Lens allows you to focus on your creativity through full control over the creative process. Control zoom, aperture settings and focusing with seamless switching between continuous autofocus and manual focus during recording (with the latest camera firmware). This enables you to capture perfectly sharp results when adjusting focus.

Consistent weight distribution for gimbal mounting

Zoom lenses aren’t typically used with gimbal stabilisation devices because changing the lens’ focal length can affect its centre of gravity resulting in changing balance. Thanks to compact dimensions and an internal zooming mechanism, the XF18-120mm F4 R LM PZ WR is an ideal solution for gimbal use because the physical length doesn’t change when zooming. This allows the filmmaker to employ just one lens for a variety of focal widths while remaining stable on a gimbal.

Minimal focus breathing with smooth and continuous iris control

The XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR Lens is perfect for a broad range of motion production applications thanks to an equivalent focal width of 27-183mm in 35mm full-frame format, a close minimum focusing distance of 60cm throughout the zoom range and near-silent operation. Minimal focus breathing, stepless aperture control and a constant f/4 aperture add to the lens versatility for videography in a range of conditions. This allows you to pull focus, make precise adjustments to iris or change focal length without causing any noticeable distractions to the recorded footage.

Designed for any shooting environment

The XF 18-120mm F4 R LM PZ WR is always ready for use outdoors with a weather-resistant design and fluorine-coated front and rear elements, designed to repel dust and moisture from the lens surfaces, while also making them easy to clean. This enables filmmakers to work in wet or dusty conditions, shoot during temperatures as low as -10°C and focus on making content anywhere.

Looking to sell your Fujifilm XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR Lens?

Our Verdict

It’s no coincidence that Fujifilm launched this XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR Lens at the same time as the flagship X-H2S Camera body. Both are designed for content creators and hybrid shooters who create videos and movies as solo filmmakers or for cinema and broadcast. The zoom lens is the first dedicated cinema model for X series cameras and brings a well considered design, which is packed with video-centric features with professional results.

Typically zoom lenses aren’t used for pro video, however the internal zoom mechanism allows the XF 18-120mm to be gimbal mounted as it maintains its weight distribution. The lens also includes a variable power zoom with zoom lever, stepless aperture adjustments and crucially allows you to switch seamlessly between MF and AF while recording, while demonstrating minimal focus breathing.

This level of control from a lens is previously unseen and will be highly desirable for pro videographers using the compact Fujifilm mirrorless system and is sure to elevate productions to the next level. Professional users will also appreciate weather sealing, fluorine coatings well as the lens barrel controls for a more intuitive workflow. Whether you shoot video for a Youtube channel or fully fledged studio productions this zoom lens makes a versatile addition to creative toolbox, which is sure to impress even seasoned filmmakers.
