Product Summary
This sixth-generation model retains the distinctive formula that has made the series popular: a high-quality fixed prime, tactile controls and hybrid viewfinder in a portable body. Its natural perspective particularly suits street, travel, documentary and everyday photography, while the all-in-one format provides a simpler alternative to carrying an interchangeable-lens system.
The latest generation adds significantly higher resolution, five-axis stabilisation and more advanced subject recognition, while expanding its capabilities for photographers who also shoot video. Despite these upgrades, the emphasis remains on portability, direct controls and a consistent way of shooting rather than system flexibility.
What’s New?
- Resolution: Increased from 26.1MP to 40.2MP for greater cropping latitude and larger prints
- Stabilisation: Five-axis IBIS appears in the series for the first time
- AF: Wider subject recognition improves tracking of moving subjects
- Video: Adds 6.2K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit recording and Full HD up to 240p
- Sensitivity: ISO 125 moves into the standard sensitivity range
- Colour: REALA ACE expands the selection to 20 Film Simulations
In More Detail
A fixed-lens shooting experience
The 35mm-equivalent angle of view covers a useful middle ground for street scenes, environmental portraits, travel and general photography. Rather than choosing between lenses or working through a zoom range, photographers compose around a consistent perspective.
Fujifilm’s introduction of higher sensor resolution also makes the fixed-lens format more versatile. There is considerably more latitude to crop when additional reach is needed. The Digital Teleconverter provides alternative framing in-camera. A built-in four-stop ND filter helps when using wider apertures or slower shutter speeds in bright conditions.
Handheld shooting and moving subjects
Five-axis stabilisation is one of the most significant practical changes from the previous generation. Rated up to 6.0 stops, it allows slower shutter speeds to be used handheld where subject movement permits. This helps with static scenes in lower light.
Tracking has also been expanded to recognise animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, aircraft, trains and insects. Face and eye recognition handles human subjects, providing broader coverage for travel, street photography and everyday situations.
Hybrid viewing and handling
The Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder allows photographers to switch between an optical view and a 3.69-million-dot electronic display. The former provides a view beyond the captured frame. The latter previews exposure, colour and other settings before the picture is taken.
An Electronic Rangefinder can place a small electronic image within the optical display for checking focus while retaining the wider optical view. The two-way tilting touchscreen also supports high and low shooting angles. It folds flat against the body when not required.
Aluminium top and bottom plates and physical exposure controls maintain the familiar handling of previous generations. Weather resistance can be added with the optional AR-X100 adapter ring and PRF-49 protective filter.
Video
Video provides a capable creative extension for photographers who primarily shoot stills. It makes it easy to capture high-quality clips alongside a day’s photography. The combination of detailed recording, 10-bit colour and high-frame-rate options provides useful scope for travel films, short-form content and spontaneous moments. This avoids the need to carry a separate video-focused camera.
Who Is It For?
This is primarily a compact camera for photographers who value portability and a consistent field of view over the amity to change lenses. Street, travel, documentary, environmental portraits and everyday photography are particularly natural fits. It’s enjoyable to use, providing a more immersive experience due to being able to change settings using the dials and buttons, rather than going into menus.
The main limitation is also fundamental to its appeal: the lens cannot be changed. Photographers who frequently need ultra-wide perspectives, substantial telephoto reach or specialist optics will be better served by an interchangeable-lens X-Series camera body.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a special memory card for 6.2K video?
No UHS-II card is required, as the camera uses a single UHS-I SD card slot. However, higher-bitrate video modes require suitably fast cards, so check the required speed class for your chosen recording settings.
Is this a worthwhile step up from smartphone photography?
Yes, particularly for photographers who want more creative control, a larger APS-C sensor and a more hands-on shooting experience. The fixed lens encourages a different approach from smartphone zooming and computational photography, while automatic exposure modes remain available when required. Those who primarily value maximum convenience and multiple focal lengths may find a smartphone more straightforward.
