DJI Osmo Mobile 8P Creator Combo Summary
This DJI Osmo Mobile 8P Creator Combo expands Osmo Mobile 8P standard into a complete mobile video setup by combining stabilisation, subject tracking and wireless audio capture in a single kit for vlogging, streaming and content creation. It includes the Multifunctional Module 2 for extended tracking and lighting control, alongside DJI Mic Mini 2 for recording audio directly with your smartphone.
This combo suits smartphone creators who need both stable footage and clear sound when filming interviews, vlogs or social content without needing additional audio equipment. The inclusion of a mobile receiver and transmitter allows direct connection to supported devices, reducing setup complexity during recording.
Tracking is supported through updated ActiveTrack 8.0 [2], while additional control and framing can be handled remotely using the new Osmo FrameTap. Together, these elements provide a more complete capture workflow for users building a mobile video kit around their phone.
Overview and Key Improvements
Osmo Mobile 8P introduces updates to tracking, control and camera movement. The pan axis now supports unlimited 360° rotation, replacing the restricted range of previous models and allowing continuous horizontal motion during recording. Support for Apple DockKit [4] enables subject tracking within native and third-party apps, extending use beyond the DJI Mimo app. Tracking capability is expanded further through the Multifunctional Module 2 [6], which adds support for tracking general objects alongside people and animals [3][7].
This generation also introduces the Osmo FrameTap detachable remote, which provides a mirrored live view with direct subject selection and tracking control away from the handle [17]. Stabilisation has been updated with improved motor response, and the built-in tripod now opens to a wider stance for increased stability when placed on flat surfaces [9]. These changes expand tracking flexibility, control options and shooting continuity across a wider range of scenarios.
DJI Osmo Mobile 8P Creator Combo In More Detail
Osmo FrameTap
The Osmo FrameTap is a detachable remote that displays a mirrored live view from the connected smartphone or Multifunctional Module 2 [6]. It allows framing, subject selection and tracking control away from the gimbal handle. Detection boxes appear on screen, and selecting a subject locks focus and initiates tracking [17].
Subjects can be switched directly without manual reframing, maintaining control during multi-subject scenes. The remote attaches magnetically to the handle or can be used independently, maintaining a stable connection during operation.
Lighting Control
When used with Multifunctional Module 2 [6], lighting can be adjusted directly from the remote. Brightness and colour temperature are controlled across multiple levels to match ambient conditions without interrupting recording.

Joystick Control
The joystick provides direct control over gimbal movement and zoom, along with adjustment of compatible accessories. Input remains continuous, allowing smooth directional changes during recording.
Magnetic Connection
The remote attaches and detaches using a magnetic connection. It can be mounted to the handle or used independently while maintaining a stable link during operation.
Apple DockKit
Support for Apple DockKit [4] enables subject tracking within native and third-party applications. Once paired via NFC, tracking can begin without relying on the DJI Mimo app, expanding compatibility across different recording workflows.
ActiveTrack 8.0
ActiveTrack 8.0 [2] maintains subject positioning within the frame during movement, including in crowded or visually complex environments [1]. The system adapts to changes in direction and temporary obstructions, maintaining continuous tracking.
Object Tracking
Tracking extends beyond people and animals to include general objects when using Multifunctional Module 2 [6]. Objects must be manually selected and meet contrast and framing requirements to ensure reliable tracking [3].
Tracking Modes
Two tracking approaches are supported depending on the shooting scenario and lens configuration.
|
Mode |
Function |
|
Subject Tracking |
Detects and follows a selected subject during movement |
|
Dual Lens Boost |
Uses wide and telephoto lenses to maintain tracking across a larger area [8] |
Extension Rod
The integrated extension rod increases the distance between the camera and subject, allowing wider framing and higher or lower shooting angles without repositioning the operator.
Built-in Tripod
The tripod is integrated into the handle and opens to a wider stance for improved stability on flat surfaces [9]. It enables hands-free recording without additional support equipment.
Battery Operation
The system operates for up to 10 hours under measured conditions [5]. Runtime includes both attached and detached remote usage under controlled testing conditions.
Phone Charging
A USB-C port allows the gimbal to supply power to a connected smartphone during operation, extending recording time during longer sessions.
Stabilisation System
The three-axis stabilisation system compensates for movement across pan, tilt and roll axes. Updated motor performance supports stable footage when changing direction or filming at varying angles.
PTF Mode
In PTF mode, the camera follows pan and tilt movements while roll remains stabilised, supporting directional movement during vertical and horizontal framing.
FPV Mode
FPV mode allows all three axes to follow the movement of the gimbal, producing motion that reflects the operator’s handling of the device.
PF Mode
In PF mode, only pan movement is followed, while tilt and roll remain stabilised, supporting horizontal movement while maintaining a steady horizon.
SpinShot
SpinShot enables controlled rotation of the camera view through joystick input, allowing continuous rotational movement during recording.
360° Rotation
The pan axis supports unlimited horizontal rotation, allowing continuous movement without reaching a mechanical limit.
Low-Angle Shooting
Tilting the pan axis forward allows recording from a lower position, enabling alternative perspectives without repositioning the subject.
Slow Shutter
Slow shutter mode captures motion over longer exposures, recording light trails and movement patterns in low-light environments.
Action Shot
Action Shot mode maintains framing on fast-moving subjects after manual selection, supporting continuous tracking during rapid motion.
DynamicZoom
DynamicZoom applies push and pull effects during recording, altering perspective while maintaining subject framing.
Widescreen Format
Recording in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio allows footage to be captured in a widescreen format without cropping during post-production.
Gesture Control
Gesture Control enables recording and tracking to be activated using predefined hand gestures within a specified distance range [16].
Composition Assist
Composition Assist overlays guides such as the golden ratio to support framing while tracking is active.
Filters and LUTs
Built-in filters and LUT import support allow real-time adjustment of colour and tone during recording.
One-Tap Editing
One-Tap Editing in the DJI Mimo app applies automated edits using predefined templates, reducing manual editing time.
ShotGuides
ShotGuides analyses the shooting environment and recommends a sequence of shots with guided instructions to assist capture.
Audio Capture
The included DJI Mic Mini 2 transmitter and mobile receiver enable audio to be recorded directly to a connected smartphone during filming. This allows voice and ambient sound to be captured alongside stabilised video without requiring a separate recording device. The system connects via the mobile receiver, supporting a simplified setup for interviews, vlogging and on-location recording.
Multifunctional Module 2
The Multifunctional Module 2 connects directly to the gimbal via the roll axis USB-C port using a reversible mount, allowing quick installation without additional setup. It is compatible with DJI OM magnetic clamps and the Magnetic Quick-Release Mount, maintaining the same mounting system across supported accessories.
The module enables subject tracking independent of smartphone performance, using on-device processing to follow people, animals, vehicles and selected objects once defined Annotation [3][7]. Tracking can be initiated manually or through gesture control, supporting use when filming without direct interaction with the device.
A built-in fill light provides adjustable illumination with multiple brightness levels and colour temperature settings, allowing subjects to be lit in low-light environments. When used with the appropriate charging cable, the module also supports phone charging during operation.

Our Verdict
The Creator Combo builds on Osmo Mobile 8P by combining stabilisation, tracking and audio capture in a single kit that can be set up quickly without additional equipment. The inclusion of the Multifunctional Module 2 enables object tracking and on-device lighting control, while the Osmo FrameTap allows framing and subject selection away from the handle. Adding the DJI Mic Mini 2 system means audio can be recorded directly to a smartphone during filming, reducing the need for separate recorders or post-sync workflows.
This configuration suits creators producing interviews, vlogs or social content where both video and sound need to be captured at the same time. It also benefits users working alone, where remote control and subject tracking help maintain framing without repositioning the camera. The result is a more complete mobile recording setup that supports both visual and audio capture from a single device.
