Panasonic Introduces Firmware Updates for S1RII and S1II and S1IIE

NEWS: Panasonic has announced a series of firmware updates for three of the latest S Series full-frame Lumix mirrorless cameras, including the S1RII, S1II and S1IIE.

These firmware updates improve the hybrid shooting experience and add more versatility for photographers and videographers, with the S1R II in particular receiving extensive enhancements, all of which are highly recommended for users.

The firmware will be available to download free of charge from the Lumix Global Customer Support website from 24th June, 2025.

Panasonic Introduces Firmware Updates for S1RII and S1II and S1IIE

LUMIX S1RII (Firmware Version 1.2)

The S1RII sees the most extensive updates, with new powerful video formats, shooting aids, and all-round improvements to workflow.

Video updates:

  • Open Gate recording added at 8.1K and 7.2K (3:2), with RAW video output over HDMI.
  • Support for ARRI LogC3 (with the optional DMW-SFU3A key), to match colour with ARRI digital cinema cameras.
  • HEIF image recording now supported in 4:2:0 10-bit format.

New Shooting Tools:

  • Urban Sports recognition joins face, eye and body detection, which tracks track fast movements like skateboarding and breakdancing.
  • Up to 17 frame aspect ratio guides available (up from 10), with three viewable at once.
  • Focus stacking is now available for creating images with sharpness from front to back across the frame.

Workflow and Connectivity Improvements:

  • Files can be transferred directly from CFexpress or SD cards to an external SSD.
  • Proxy recording to the internal card while outputting RAW via HDMI is supported.
  • Data transfer is now available via Wi-Fi and USB-LAN, including support for Capture One tethering.
  • Timecode sync over Bluetooth and UVC/UAC device support added.
  • HLG View Assist added for more accurate exposure previews.
  • Bluetooth connectivity with DJI gimbals is now supported.

More Customisation:

  • The focus ring can now be reassigned as a control ring for key functions.
  • Manual focus direction can be reversed.
  • AF frame colour options expanded to 10 for improved visibility.

LUMIX S1II and S1IIE (Firmware Version 1.1)

While smaller than the S1RII update, both the S1II and S1IIE cameras gain several extremely useful additions, including:

  • ARRI LogC3 support with the optional DMW-SFU3A upgrade key.
  • Up to 17 frame guides now available, with three shown on screen at once.
  • AF frame colour options expanded to 10.
  • Focus stacking added for greater depth of field in stills.
  • Tethering support for Capture One via Wi-Fi or USB-LAN.

These updates show Panasonic’s continued support for creators by bringing significant improvements to its hybrid cameras after launch for stills, video or a hybrid mixture of both.
