Shimoda Core Unit Compatibility Guide

Shimoda Core Unit Compatibility Guide

Which Shimoda Core Unit Fits My Backpack?

Shimoda has a variety of backpacks and camera bags which are extremely popular among photographers, filmmakers and outdoor creators thanks to their rugged, modular designs. With so many different backpack sizes, shapes and Core Units available, it can be tricky to figure out exactly which insert fits which bag, especially if you’re mixing gear between different models like an Action X, Explore V2 or Urban.

That’s where our interactive Shimoda Core Unit compatibility table comes in!

We’ve created a compatibility guide which shows how Shimoda Core Units fit into backpacks, across the full range. Whether using a Mirrorless Small, DSLR Large, or one of the longer XL RST units for telephoto gear, this chart will help you identify which bags offer the right internal space and access.

Each cell is marked with a coloured circle to show the fit:

• 🟢 Best means it’s a perfect, snug fit.

• 🟠 Good means it will fit, but there may be a bit of room or compression.

• 🟡 OK means it can work with some trade-offs or tighter spacing.

You can also filter the table by compatibility level using the checkboxes below, helping you to narrow down the options quickly.

Use the scroll on mobile to view all backpack models and combinations, and check the ‘Max Camera/Lens Combo Length’ column for each Core Unit to ensure your exact setup will fit inside.

Whether you’re upgrading, expanding or just planning smarter, this tool takes the guesswork out of packing your Shimoda bag and core unit.
