Vortex Crossfire HD 12x50 Binocular Summary
This model offers the highest-magnification in the Crossfire HD range, providing greater subject enlargement than the 8x and 10x options. Its larger 50mm objectives and fully multi-coated HD optical system also support light transmission and clarity in lower light.
HD Optics and Lens Coatings
The HD Optical System uses selected glass elements to reduce chromatic aberration while maintaining resolution, colour fidelity, edge-to-edge sharpness and light transmission. Fully multi-coated lenses use anti-reflective coatings across air-to-glass surfaces to increase light transmission and support clarity in lower light.
Open-Hinge Construction and Outdoor Protection
True Open Hinge construction reduces overall weight and bulk, while rubber armour provides a non-slip exterior and additional protection.
Nitrogen-gas purging and O-ring sealing provide waterproof and fogproof performance across changing weather and temperatures, while the binoculars are also constructed for impact resistance.
Focus, Eyecups and Tripod Support
A central focus wheel adjusts both barrels simultaneously, while twist-adjustable eyecups accommodate viewing with or without glasses.
The binoculars are tripod adaptable with a compatible adapter, providing the option of additional support during prolonged observation.
12x50 for Greater Subject Enlargement
Compared with the 10x50, the 12x50 increases magnification while retaining the same objective diameter and similar overall dimensions. Field of view narrows from approximately 107m to 91m at 1,000m, while eye relief decreases from 17mm to 15mm.
The 12x50 therefore prioritises greater enlargement of distant wildlife and landscape details, while the 10x50 provides a broader view and longer eye relief at the same 50mm objective size.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth moving up to Diamondback HD?
Diamondback HD adds dielectric prism coatings, Phase Correction, ArmorTek lens protection and argon purging, as well as considerably more size and magnification options. Crossfire HD makes sense when you want the core HD optical system and outdoor protection without needing those additional features.
Who is Crossfire HD best suited to?
The range suits everyday birdwatching, wildlife and nature observation, with 8x and 10x models covering general use and the larger 12x50 providing greater reach. It is a useful starting point for buyers who want Vortex HD binoculars before moving into the more advanced ranges.
