The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 Lens for Nikon Z brings their highly popular fast-aperture telephoto zoom lens to Nikon’s full-frame mirrorless system. Tamron’s G2 version improves on the original by introducing VC image stabilisation, upgraded autofocus speed and precision through the VXD linear motor technology, as well as compatibility with Tamron Lens Utility software for customisation and updates.
The optical design incorporates 20 elements in 15 groups, including special low-dispersion and aspherical elements that maintain high sharpness and colour accuracy from edge to edge and throughout the zoom range.
With a minimum focus distance of 0.3m at the wide end, this lens can capture striking close-up details and has a fast f/2.8 constant aperture throughout the zoom, for shallow depth of field. Compact Telephoto Zoom
Tamron’s 70-180mm f/2.8 VC VXD G2 is the world’s smallest and lightest full-frame f/2.8 telephoto zoom in its class. Despite the compact size, it delivers high optical quality and usability, which is comparable to larger zoom lenses. The lens measures 158.7mm long and weighs just 865g, which is easy to handhold even for long shoots, with excellent balance on Nikon Z cameras.
Bright Constant f/2.8 Aperture
The fast f/2.8 aperture provides a bright image and consistent exposure throughout the zoom range, while being capable of excellent subject separation from the background. With Tamron’s optical design of 20 elements in 15 groups, the lens is suitable for everything from portraits and sports, to events. A circular 9-blade diaphragm contributes to natural, rounded bokeh when shooting point light sources.
Vibration Compensation for Stability
This G2 generation introduces Tamron’s proprietary VC mechanism, which offers stabilisation for handheld shooting. This is especially useful for low-light or when shooting at the longer end of the zoom range, helping creators achieve sharp results without the need for a tripod.
Fast, Precise and Quiet Autofocus
Autofocus performance is driven by Tamron’s VXD linear motor, which is both fast and accurate. The lens is able to track moving subjects effectively, and operates quietly enough for video recording. Focus accuracy is maintained even during high-speed continuous shooting or when filming scenes that require smooth transitions.
Close-Up Versatility
At 70mm the lens can focus as close as 0.3m, with a maximum magnification of 1:2.6. This enables creative close-up and tele-macro photography with a shallow depth of field to draw attention to the subject. At 180mm, the minimum focusing distance is still only 0.85m, allowing for closer framing with attractive background compression.
Durable Build and Unified Design
The G2 lens is moisture-resistant with a fluorine-coated front element, which repels dust, fingerprints, and moisture. It has the same 67mm filter thread as other Tamron Di III lenses, simplifying filters and accessories. The exterior lens barrel also features improved ergonomics and a scratch-resistant coating for durability.

Condition guide
Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.
