The Tamron 16-30mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Lens for Nikon Z is a second-generation ultra wide-angle zoom designed for full-frame Nikon Z mirrorless cameras. It offers a broader field of view than the previous 17-28mm model, while staying compact, lightweight and featured superb optical performance. With such a wide field of view and fast aperture, this versatile wide-angle zoom is ideal for all sorts of subjects such as environmental portraits, landscapes, interiors, travel, architecture and video.
Now available in Nikon Z mount, the G2 version features Tamron’s advanced VXD linear motor, which is fast, accurate and quiet, and supports both photography and video content creation. The 16-30mm f/2.8 delivers high resolution results across the frame, with excellent close-up capability for tabletop and detail shots.
The lens weighs just 450g and measures 103.9mm long, so this is a great option for distant locations, hiking and travel with a Nikon Z body. It’s also compatible with Tamron Lens Utility™ software, which allows you to customise functionality and update firmware, adding yet more convenience for hybrid creators.

Compact Ultra-Wide Zoom with Fast f/2.8 Aperture
This second-generation Tamron 16-30mm f/2.8 G2 adds versatility for Nikon Z mount mirrorless users, particularly when capturing landscapes, interiors and architectural subjects. This begins with a wider field of view than the 17-28mm predecessor, and an expansive 107° FOV at the wide end of the zoom range. Despite the coverage, the lens is extremely portable at just 450g, with a compact barrel that measures just over 10cm.

High Optical Quality for High-Resolution Sensors
The optical construction features 16 elements in 12 groups, including specialist glass to help control distortion and render edge-to-edge sharpness. The fast f/2.8 maximum aperture produces natural-looking blur and gathers plenty of light if shooting handheld subjects in low-light. Close-focusing is as little as 19cm at the ultra-wide 16mm end, opening up creative opportunities for close-up shots, products and interiors.
Enhanced AF Performance with VXD Motor
Tamron’s linear VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) motor ensures accurate, near-silent autofocus for both stills and video. It performs reliably when tracking moving subjects and benefits from fast response and minimal focus breathing. Focus performance is a noticeable improvement over the previous generation, enabling creators to keep pace with high-performance mirrorless cameras.

Intuitive Handling and Unified 67mm Filters
The G2 design features subtle ergonomic enhancements, including a more refined finish and updated grip textures on the zoom and focus rings. It feels solid in the hand despite being lightweight and offers smoother operation, particularly when manually focusing or adjusting framing manually. A compact 67mm front filter thread matches Tamron’s other f/2.8 G2 zooms, which allows you to share filters across kit.
Customisable with Tamron Lens Utility
Like most recent Tamron lenses the 16-30mm f/2.8 G2 is compatible with Tamron Lens Utility software (via optional cable), which allows you to customise functions for photo and video. This includes setting a custom focus preset, adjusting focus ring behaviour, and switching between linear and non-linear MF response.

The Tamron 16-30mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Lens for Nikon Z provides Nikon full-frame mirrorless users with a compact, fast-aperture ultra wide-angle zoom with excellent performance and refined second-generation handling. It has a 16mm starting point in the zoom range, which is wider than the previous 17-28mm lens, with a wider fields of view that is suitable for architecture, interiors, landscapes and video, without becoming overly heavy of cumbersome.
Autofocus is driven by the high-performance VXD motor, which has been used in Tamron’s other G2 lenses. This is known for delivering fast, near-silent operation that is compatible with Nikon’s hybrid AF systems. At 450g the Nikon ultra wide lens is easy to travel with, and its short barrel ensures good handling, even on smaller bodies like the Nikon Z6 III or Z5 II.
Image quality is excellent across the frame, with high levels of sharpness, minimal distortion and a the ability to render smooth defocus when required. The close focus capability adds further creative potential, and compatibility with Tamron Lens Utility™ means that users can customise certain lens functions or update firmware more easily.

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
