Our Verdict
The new FX6 video camera from Sony provides professional videographers with a completely new full frame tool for making high quality movies. Compatibility with E mount lenses as well as new high quality Sony Cine line lenses facilitates a more streamlined workflow with access to the latest AF systems and stabilisation meta data. The inclusion of a full frame sensor delivers several advantages including wide dynamic range, broad ISO capabilities, together with pleasing soft out of focus areas associated with full frame cameras.
Recording capabilities will satisfy even the most demanding users with 15 stops of dynamic range, S35 scanning at 60fps in DCI 4K. The new S-Cinetone captures alluring, natural skin tones compatible with XAVC-I 422 10bit and slow motion scenes can be recorded at up to 240fps. whilst being fan cooled. Bionz XR processors are future proofed providing up to 4x faster processing capabilities and the sensor boasts 627 focal plane AF points. The level of technology belies the compact nature of the camera which weighs only 890g and provides yet more flexibility from an array of pro inputs as well as the modular smart grip and handle system. We are certain the FX6 will appeal to existing upgraders as well as newcomers to Sony’s growing line of broadcast capable video cameras.
