Product Overview
This zoom lens moves from a circular image at the wide end to a frame-filling diagonal view at 14mm, providing dramatically different ways to capture landscapes, architecture, action, events and immersive content. As Sony’s first native E-mount fisheye zoom, it brings both perspectives together in one super-compact optic.
At just 314g, internal zoom and focusing maintain consistent dimensions and balance. A constant F3.5 aperture, responsive AF and 0.15m minimum subject distance broaden its usefulness, while dedicated controls, breathing suppression and dual-unit compatibility extend its role into video and professional 3D VR production.
In More Detail
From circular to diagonal perspectives
At 8mm on full-frame, the image circle sits within the rectangular frame, progressively enlarging until it fills the frame diagonally at 14mm. This provides considerable creative control over how much surrounding space is incorporated, while APS-C shooting offers another route to a diagonal result.
High-resolution optics across the frame
The 16-element, 13-group construction includes four ED, one ED aspherical and two aspherical elements. These help control chromatic aberration and field curvature while retaining fine detail towards the edges. Internal reflections are also suppressed to reduce flare and ghosting when bright light sources enter the composition.
Get closer to the subject
A 0.15m minimum focusing distance applies throughout the range, with maximum magnification of 0.22x. Moving very close exaggerates foreground scale while retaining extensive environmental context, providing another way to create striking compositions beyond simply capturing a very broad scene.
Fast AF for action and high frame rates
Two linear motors provide rapid focusing and tracking, including continuous AF during bursts at up to 120fps on compatible cameras. Autofocus also operates during HFR 120p/240p recording where supported, while Linear Response MF provides predictable manual adjustment when greater control is required.
Refined control for video
Focus breathing is optically suppressed, with compatible bodies also supporting electronic breathing compensation. The aperture ring switches between 1/3-stop clicks and smooth operation, while a customisable focus hold button provides direct access to an assigned camera function.
Compact, consistent handling
At 82.8mm long, the barrel maintains its dimensions during operation. Separate zoom, focus and aperture rings provide direct control, while a three-position lock secures the 8mm, 14mm or intermediate APS-C setting to prevent accidental movement. A rear holder accepts sheet-type filters cut using the supplied template.
Built for professional 3D VR
Two units can be positioned side-by-side with a 64mm interpupillary distance for stereoscopic capture. The slim 63.1mm diameter enables this configuration, while Focus Hold helps maintain an established manual setting. Applications include virtual tours, museums, property presentation and other immersive productions.

- Hybrid shooters capturing both stills and video
- Event and social content creators seeking more distinctive imagery
- Underwater photographers working with expansive scenes

What can you shoot?

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use filters?
Yes. Sheet-type material can be fitted to the rear holder, with a dedicated template supplied for cutting it to the required shape. This avoids the difficulty of attaching conventional filters to the curved front element.
What does the three-position zoom lock do?
It secures three useful settings: 8mm, 14mm and an intermediate position for APS-C shooting, helping prevent the chosen framing from being changed accidentally.
Can it be used on an APS-C camera?
Yes. At the wide end it produces a diagonal result rather than the circular image seen when shooting full-frame.
How can two be used for 3D VR capture?
A pair can be positioned with a 64mm interpupillary distance for stereoscopic recording. Their narrow diameter enables the required spacing, while Focus Hold can maintain an established manual focus position during capture.
