Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G Lens in More Detail

Eight optical elements arranged in seven groups including three aspherical elements and one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element. These combine to provide high resolution and suppresses colour fringing across the entire image. High corner to corner resolution and smooth bokeh make this an excellent compact, lightweight, wide angle lens for cityscapes, landscapes and videography.

A 7-blade circular aperture creates beautiful background defocus bokeh effects, ideal for making portraits and to isolate the subject from the background

Subject tracking is maintained regardless of quick changes in the subject’s motion, making this lens ideal for situations like snap shooting of moving subjects as found when travelling, shooting street scenes or filming people in motion.

The high quality construction includes engraved iris ring indices, focal length markings and Sony logo on the hood. This gives a premium feel to the 24mm f/2.8 G lens, despite being amongst the smallest and lightest in the Sony lens range.

We reviewed and compared the three new Sony prime lenses in our blog, why not take a read for more details and image samples.

Looking to sell your Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G Lens?

Our Verdict

The release of the FE 24mm f/2.8 G allows a lot of Sony users of any skill level to acquire a compelling wide angle prime lens, suitable for both stills and movies. Being such a compact and lightweight model presents the opportunity to bring this as well as the 40mm f/2.5 G Lens and 50mm f/2.5 G Lens to any shoot, or when travelling, with a combined total weight of around 0.5kg. This is quite remarkable considering the quality of optics enclosed, with three aspherical and one ED element, meaning quality isn’t being sacrificed for weight savings.

Users who make the most of Face and Eye-detect systems will love the high speed and virtually silent dual AF motors, which work seamlessly with Sony’s AF technology for stills and video. The lens itself also has a premium feel with an aluminium body, engraved markings, an aperture ring, focus hold button and of course some weather resistance from the rubber mount ring. This makes for a practical and stylish companion when shooting subjects inside or outside.

Speaking of subjects, the wide 24mm focal width is suitable for so many genres that complement the other two standard primes in this range, that there is a strong argument for collecting all three from this trio. Regardless of whether you pick up this wide angle alone, or all three in the series, you are sure to be excited by the results which this lens is capable of .
