Sigma 24mm f/2 DG Contemporary Lens Black for L Mount in More Detail
High Image Quality Across the Frame
The Sigma 24mm f/2 DG Contemporary Lens combines high optical performance with portability, resulting in sharp, detailed images across the entire frame, even on high-resolution full-frame sensors. The optical construction consists of 13 elements in 11 groups, with two aspherical elements, one FLD and two SLD elements. This corrects for various types of aberration, including lateral chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare, which is essential for wide-angle clarity from edge to edge.
As a result, photographers can expect excellent contrast, minimal distortion, and fine details that extend into the corners, even when shooting at the widest aperture of f/2. The rounded 9-blade diaphragm creates attractive blur, helping to highlight subjects when shooting close or at wide apertures.
Advanced lens coatings, including Super Multi-Layer Coating, reduce ghosting and flare in challenging lighting, while vignetting is also well controlled.
Ideal for Landscapes, Portraits, and Everyday Shooting
The 24mm focal length is highly versatile, offering an 84.1° angle of view on full-frame bodies, which is wide enough to capture landscapes, interiors, and architecture, but also lends itself to storytelling, environmental portraits and other scenes.
The bright f/2 aperture improves low-light usability, whether for handheld shooting at events, indoors, or capturing night skies. For portrait photographers, the fast aperture also enables creative use of depth of field, helping to produce soft backgrounds while keeping the subject in crisp focus.
Despite its optical capabilities, the lens is compact, measuring just 72mm in length and weighing only 365g in this L Mount version. This makes it an excellent choice for travel, documentary, or any situation where lightweight is a benefit.
Premium Build with Great Handling
Like other lenses from the Contemporary series, the 24mm f/2 is built to a high standard. The barrel, aperture ring, focus ring, and even the lens hood and magnetic lens cap are all made from precision-machined metal. These parts are not only durable but contribute to a tactile experience when adjusting settings or handling the lens.
The aperture ring offers click stops in third-stop increments and includes an Auto position for aperture control via the camera body. A finely knurled finish on the aperture and focus rings provides good grip and control, whether adjusting settings on a tripod or handheld. Additionally a dust and splash-resistant mount adds a level of protection when shooting outdoors.
Unlike many wide-angle lenses, this one features a front 62mm filter thread, which enables the use of threaded ND filters, polarisers or grad filters systems, which is especially useful for landscape photographers.
Compact and Durable
The lens is manufactured at Sigma’s Aizu facility in Japan, where every step of production is overseen to ensure precision and consistency. This includes grinding of glass elements, assembly of mechanical components, and final quality control.
