Ricoh GR IV Compact Digital Camera (Development Announcement)
The long-awaited Ricoh GR IV compact has officially been announced and is currently in development, which marks a major moment for street and travel photographers. As the successor to the hugely popular GR III and GR IIIx compact cameras, the new GR IV will continue Ricoh’s minimalist philosophy, by delivering high-quality imaging in a genuinely pocketable compact design.
While the full specifications are yet to be confirmed, Ricoh has stated that the GR IV will maintain the compact body and fast operation of the GR series, while adding updates in three key areas: image quality, snapshot performance, and usability. The aim is to elevate the photographic experience for new users and long-time GR fans, who are passionate about this compact camera.

What We Know So Far
According to Ricoh, the GR IV is being designed with direct feedback from GR fans around the world. While specific specs such as sensor size, lens focal length, and resolution have not been disclosed, Ricoh emphasises that the camera will preserve the core GR identity, which is a minimal form, intuitive controls, and outstanding image quality from a fixed prime lens.
No release date or pricing has been confirmed, but the GR IV will build on the success of the GR III, which featured a 24.2MP APS-C sensor, 28mm f/2.8 equivalent lens, and rapid response times. We expect a similar class-leading design with refined updates.
They also mentioned that there’ll be another camera based on this new GR IV, which will be another GR-series model featuring an HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) is also under development.
