Panasonic DMW-DMS1 4 Channel Electret Condenser Microphone Array Summary
The Panasonic DMW-DMS1 is a four-channel electret condenser microphone array that connects to Lumix cameras via a compatible hot shoe. It captures high-resolution audio using a large-diameter 10mm microphone array and supports multiple directional patterns for different recording situations.
This mic is ideal for Lumix hybrid creators who require professional on-camera audio, and it features directionality control, 32-bit float recording support on compatible bodies and cable-free operation. Panasonic DMW-DMS1 4 Channel Electret Condenser Microphone Array In More Detail
Four-channel array
The DMW-DMS1 uses a 10mm large-diameter microphone array to capture sound across four channels. This multi-capsule design enables selectable directional control rather than fixed pickup, with audio transmitted directly through the camera interface in supported workflows.
Selectable directionality modes
Six directional modes adapt to different recording scenarios. Forward Directionality Cardioid focuses on subjects in front of the camera. Stereo and Wide Stereo expand ambient capture for documentary or environmental sound. Forward Supercardioid narrows focus for interviews. Rearward Supercardioid isolates sound behind the camera. Bidirectional Supercardioid captures front and rear sources simultaneously. Physical switches on the body allow immediate pattern changes.
32-bit float and backup recording
When paired with compatible cameras including DC-S1M2, S1M2ES and S1RM2 with updated firmware, the microphone supports 32-bit float recording. This increases headroom and helps prevent clipped audio in unpredictable conditions. A backup recording mode is also available on supported bodies.
Mechanical isolation and wind control
An internal shock-mount mechanism reduces vibration transferred from camera handling. The supplied windscreen limits wind disturbance outdoors, maintaining dialogue clarity in light wind.
Integrated hot shoe connection
The cable-free hot shoe interface handles both power and audio transmission. This reduces external wiring and keeps the camera setup compact for handheld, travel and event production.
