The Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70mm f/2.8 ASPH Lens Black Anodised is a versatile standard zoom lens for L-Mount creators who want exceptional optical performance from a more compact L mount lens. It provides a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range, covering a wide-angle to short telephoto range from a lightweight 572g design that’s ideal for travel, landscapes and general photography.
This is the most compact and lightweight standard zoom in the SL-System to date, offering a portable alternative for hybrid shooters who need sharp, consistent results across focal lengths. With fast, accurate autofocus and premium build quality, it supports a wide range of photo and video applications including handheld environmental portraits or run-and-gun filmmaking.
As expected from a Leica lens, it delivers outstanding optical quality, incorporating three aspherical elements across 16 lenses in 12 groups, which minimise aberrations and maintain high resolution and contrast. The lens also benefits from Leica’s advanced coatings to reduce reflections and improve transmission.
Optics are housed in a robust black anodised aluminium barrel with weather sealing, and this lens is ideal whether you’re travelling light or just want a more compact L-Mount setup.

Compact standard zoom for the SL-System
28-70mm focal range covers wide-angle, standard and short telephoto fields of view, which is ideal for both photography and video. This focal range suits everything from landscapes to portraits and general purpose shooting, without requiring lens changes. A fast constant f/2.8 aperture delivers consistent exposure across the entire zoom range. This is ideal for shooting in varied lighting conditions, controlling depth of field, and maintaining consistent exposure when zooming during video capture with a workhorse focal range, suitable for all sorts of images.
Precision optics for Leica-level results
Leica has designed this Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70mm f/2.8 ASPH to deliver outstanding image quality. The optical formula includes 16 elements in 12 groups, with three aspherical elements (ASPH) that suppress distortion and chromatic aberrations, resulting in high sharpness and contrast from edge to edge.
Fast and reliable autofocus
A responsive internal focus mechanism provides fast and silent autofocus, which supports smooth focus transitions in video and quick acquisition in photography. Manual override is also available for full control when needed.
Robust yet lightweight design
The lens features an anodised aluminium barrel with seals against dust and moisture, offering high levels of confidence when shooting outdoors. Despite rugged build, the lens weighs just 572g, and is perfect for extended handheld use or gimbal recording.

Condition guide
Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.

This product has been thoroughly tested by our team of photographers and we are happy to give a 6 month warranty as a result. The number of tests depends on the individual product but we are confident in this product having tested all the major functions. Anything that isn’t as you would expect, we then make a note of and show this in the condition notes on the page.
