Leica MONOPAN 50 Black and White Film Summary

The Leica MONOPAN 50 is a black and white 35mm film, which offers exceptional image quality for discerning photographers. With an extremely fine grain, resolving power of up to 280 line pairs per millimetre, and extended panchromatic sensitivity up to 780nm, it captures high-resolution detail with rich tonal range. All in all this ISO 50/18° film reflects Leica’s unwavering commitment to quality and harks back to Oskar Barnack’s philosophy of ‘small negative, big picture.'

The 36 exposure camera film is Made in Germany and optimised for use with Leica rangefinder cameras and M mount lenses. With such a slow ISO 50 speed, MONOPAN 50 enables wide-aperture photography even in bright daylight conditions, without the need for ND filters. It is therefore well suited to landscape, architectural, cityscape, and travel photography. It also responds well to infrared and coloured filters, while providing control over contrast and image results when you shoot with yellow, orange or green filters.

The film can be processed in all black-and-white developers and provides endless possibilities for black-and-white photography with high levels of detail and fine grain. Leica has created vintage-design packaging for this, their first ever camera film, with a design that heralds back to the very beginnings of 35mm photography, which many attribute to Leica.
