Leica M EV1 Camera with Summicron-M 28mm f/2 Lens Black Anodised Summary
The Leica M EV1 Camera with Summicron-M 28mm f/2 Lens Black Anodised combines Leica’s first M rangefinder with an integrated electronic viewfinder with a classic wide-angle prime, which is widely used for documentary and street photography. The kit includes the groundbreaking M EV1 digital rangefinder and classic Summicron-M 28mm f/2, which is a compact lens known for a wide field of view and well controlled perspective.
The EV1 sits alongside the M11 series but includes a built-in 5.76-megapixel OLED electronic viewfinder for the first time in any M camera. This provides live view composition with focus aids and exposure preview, which is especially useful with these kinds of wider focal lengths. When paired with the 28mm Summicron, the EVF shows the full image area, supporting accurate framing and manual focus, even when working close to subjects or composing to the edges of a frame.
This kit is ideal for photographers who prefer a wider perspective to include more context in the story. It also provides an accessible entry point into the Leica M system for new users, while supporting an updated workflow for experienced M photographers who want electronic preview and focus assistance without leaving the M ecosystem.

Leica M EV1 Camera with Summicron-M 28mm f/2 Lens Black Anodised in More Detail
Lens and image quality
The 28mm focal length is a long standing favourite from the Leica M system, which is known for the ability to include context without introducing heavy distortion. On the M EV1’s full-frame sensor, it records scenes with a wide controlled perspective, making it well suited to street photography, reportage, travel and documentary. The Summicron-M 28mm f/2 renders even sharpness and strong contrast across the frame, which the EV1 sensor records with high detail and smooth tonal transitions.
Manual focus with EVF support
The integrated electronic viewfinder on the M EV1 changes how wide-angle lenses can be used in rangefinders. Focus peaking highlights the plane of focus clearly in the viewfinder, while focus magnification allows precise checking when working at f/2 or close to the minimum focusing distance. With the 28mm lens, this is particularly useful when composing near the edges of the frame or working in dynamic environments.
Handling and usability
The Summicron-M 28mm f/2 is compact when mounted on the EV1 body, keeping the overall kit nicely weighted for handheld shooting. The rectangular metal lens hood reduces stray light without adding much weight, and the camera’s FN-Lever places focus aids within easy reach. Exposure information and framing data are displayed via the EVF, allowing continuous feedback without removing your eye from the viewfinder.
Connectivity
Images can be saved to the EV1’s 64GB internal memory or to an SD card, with wireless transfer available through the Leica FOTOS app. This supports background image transfer, quick review and backup without removing the card, which suits photographers working on location or travelling light.
