DJI Mic 3 (1 TX + 1 RX) Summary

The DJI Mic 3 (1 TX + 1 RX) is the third generation in DJI’s wireless microphone series, which has become a go-to for many creators, YouTubers and videographers. It can capture broadcast-quality sound from a surprisingly small unit, and will keep working reliably even when recording at a distance of up to 400m.

This version has one transmitter, so it’s better suited to solo creators who usually work on their own. It’s ideal for vlogs, streaming, voiceovers or recording on location without the need for a second mic. If you do decide to work with another person later, extra transmitters are available separately and can be added to the system without changing the rest of your setup.

The transmitter is small, light and easy to hide, with the option to clip it on or use the magnetic mount [1]. The receiver connects directly to your camera, phone or computer, and the charging case keeps both units powered up and stored together, ready to go.

You still get the same audio upgrades as the larger kits, including adaptive gain control [3], three voice tone presets [4] and two-level noise cancelling [5]. Dual-band anti-interference [6] keeps the signal stable, and there’s lossless audio transmission, 32-bit float dual-file recording and timecode for easier editing.

With battery life of up to 28 hours [13] when using the charging case, and quick charging for short turnarounds, it’s a compact and dependable way to record high-quality wireless sound when working solo.

DJI Mic 3 (1 TX + 1 RX) in More Detail

Small, Lightweight, and Capable

The DJI Mic 3 transmitter is super compact, lightweight, and discreet, making it easy to position without drawing unnecessary attention. You can attach it using the built-in clip or magnetic mount [1]. The detachable, rotatable clip lets you adjust the microphone angle to achieve the best sound, whether positioned upright, sideways, or inverted.

All-In-One Storage and Charging

The charging case stores one transmitter and one receiver securely. The transmitter fits with its windscreen attached, as well as either the magnet or magnetic clip, so there’s no need to remove accessories when packing the kit away. Inside the lid there’s also room for the magnets and locking audio adapter cable [1], so everything stays organised, charged, and ready to use.

Adaptive Gain Control for Balanced Volume [3]

Mic 3 features three gain modes to suit different recording conditions:

Mode

Description

Automatic

Prevents audio clipping, ideal for loud or unpredictable environments such as sporting events.

Dynamic

Adjusts gain in real time to maintain consistent volume, best for quieter indoor recordings.

Manual

Allows full user control over gain for precise level setting.

Three Voice Tone Presets [4]

You can also shape your voice using three built-in tone settings with Mic 3:

Preset

Description

Regular

Clean, natural, and balanced audio.

Rich

Emphasises lower frequencies for a fuller sound.

Bright

Accentuates higher frequencies for extra clarity.

Noise Control and Windscreen Performance [5]

Two-level noise cancelling reduces unwanted background noise, while the windscreen significantly cuts wind interference. Together they help with capturing clear, professional audio in outdoor or noisy environments, so the microphone system is ideal for live streaming, vlogging, and location recording.

Easy Control and Operation

The receiver has a 1.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen and a control dial, which provides you with quick access to gain, battery status, and recording modes. Adjustments can also be made using the DJI Mimo app, which supports firmware updates and additional controls.

Robust Performance with Multi-Device Option

The receiver can connect with up to four transmitters at once [2], while also supporting up to eight receivers in total. This means you can expand your kit in the future, recording multiple audio sources and distributing them across several devices for more complex setups.

You can choose between Mono or Stereo output, or Quadraphonic mode for four separate tracks, which is supported by select Sony cameras and compatible editing software.

Dual-Band Reliability [6]

Mic 3 automatically hops between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to maintain a stable signal, with an industry-leading transmission range of up to 400 metres in open conditions [7]. This dual-band approach ensures clear audio even in busy wireless environments such as trade shows and outdoor arenas.

Lossless Audio and Internal Recording

When enabled lossless transmission delivers uncompressed 48kHz 24-bit audio [8]. The transmitter also offers dual-file internal recording, which saves both the original track and an enhanced version at the same time [9].

With 32-bit float recording, the system captures a wide dynamic range, spanning everything from quiet whispers to loud peaks, while significantly reducing the risk of audio distortion. 32-bit float provides far greater flexibility in post-production together with more audio reliability in unpredictable or noisy environments.

Built-In Timecode [10]

Timecode data is embedded during internal recording, and the receiver supports both timecode input and output. With less than one frame of drift over 24 hours [11], this feature ensures seamless multi-camera synchronisation and faster editing for multi-cam situations.

Hassle-Free File Export

The charging case connects to your computer or smartphone via USB-C [12], which allows you to transfer all of the recorded files from the transmitter in one go. This speeds up your post-production workflow and reduces data handling time.

Extended Battery Life [13]

The transmitter runs for up to 8 hours [14], and the receiver operates for up to 10 hours [14]. The charging case adds around 2.4 full charges, bringing total operating time to approximately 28 hours [13].

Quick charging gives you up to 2 hours of recording from just a 5-minute top-up [15], while a full charge takes about 50 minutes [16] with 3C fast charging support.

Intelligent Power-Saving Features [17]

The system includes auto power-saving, automatic shut-off after inactivity, auto on/off with your camera, and the ability to charge while in use. These features can help to conserve battery life and keep the system ready to record at any time.

Direct Device Connections

Mic 3 supports DJI OsmoAudio™ direct connection for compatible devices [19], multiple wired outputs including locking TRS, TRRS, and USB-C, and Bluetooth direct-to-phone pairing for app-based or third-party recording [20, 21]. This means that creators can record synchronised audio from their many cameras and action cameras for consistency and a single mic solution.

DJI Mic 3 Accessories [22]

A range of optional accessories is available, including:

  1. DJI Mic Series Camera Adapter for direct Sony camera connection with digital audio and four-channel output.
  2. Multi-colour windscreens to blend with clothing or surroundings.
  3. DJI Mic 3 Mobile Phone Adapter (Lightning) for iOS devices.
