Canon EOS R6 Mark III with RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L Lens Kit Summary

This Canon EOS R6 Mark III with RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L Lens Kit combines a high-speed full-frame mirrorless camera with a super-telephoto zoom, creating a compelling system suited to wildlife, bird and sports photography. The EOS R6 Mark III features a 32.5 megapixel sensor with fast continuous shooting up to 40fps and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system from Canon, which tracks subjects across the frame with consistency.

Autofocus detects people, animals and vehicles, which is suitable for unpredictable subjects such as birds in flight or fast-moving wildlife. The Canon camera also supports up to 7K 60p RAW video and Open Gate recording, allowing footage to be reframed for multiple formats from a single take.

The included RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM provides a long focal range for distant subjects, with optical stabilisation and fast autofocus. Compatibility with RF extenders increases reach further, making this kit suitable for photographers who require flexibility at longer distances.

Canon EOS R6 Mark III with RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L Lens Kit In More Detail

32.5 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor

The EOS R6 Mark III uses a 32.5 megapixel sensor, allowing detailed images with the flexibility to crop into distant subjects. This is particularly useful when photographing wildlife where subjects cannot always be approached closely.

The sensor balances resolution and speed, supporting both detailed stills and high frame rate shooting.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for wildlife and action

Autofocus uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with subject detection for animals, birds and vehicles. The system tracks subjects across the frame and adapts to unpredictable movement.

This supports consistent focus when photographing birds in flight or fast-moving wildlife.

Up to 40fps shooting with pre-shooting

The camera supports continuous shooting at up to 40 frames per second using the electronic shutter. Pre-shooting captures frames before the shutter is fully pressed, helping to record moments that happen quickly.

This is particularly relevant for wildlife behaviour and sports action where timing is critical.

7K RAW video and Open Gate recording

The EOS R6 Mark III records up to 7K 60p RAW video, capturing detailed footage across the full sensor width. This supports flexible editing and high-resolution output.

Open Gate recording allows the full sensor area to be used, enabling content to be reframed into multiple formats after capture.

Stabilisation for handheld telephoto use

In-body image stabilisation provides up to 8.5 stops of correction and works alongside lens stabilisation. This supports handheld shooting at longer focal lengths, where camera shake is more noticeable.

This allows more flexibility when working without a tripod.

RF 100-500mm super-telephoto performance

The 100-500mm focal range is widely used for wildlife and bird photography, where it provides extended reach for distant subjects, covering a wide telephoto range without changing lenses.

The optical design uses Super UD and UD elements to control chromatic aberration and maintain clarity across the zoom range. Air Sphere Coating reduces flare and ghosting when shooting in challenging light.

Extender compatibility and reach

The lens is compatible with Canon RF extenders, allowing focal length to be extended beyond 500mm. This provides additional reach for small or distant subjects without changing systems.

This is particularly useful for bird photography and long-distance wildlife observation.

Real-world handling and workflow

The camera body remains manageable for handheld use, while the lens balances reach with portability for a super-telephoto zoom.

Together, this kit supports tracking and framing distant subjects while maintaining autofocus accuracy and image quality.

Canon RF lens ecosystem

The Canon RF lens range is for EOS R mirrorless cameras, offering a wide selection of focal lengths, aperture ranges and designs to suit any application. The RF mount allows fast communication between lens and body, supporting responsive autofocus, stabilisation and consistent exposure control.

Optical performance is maintained across the frame, with designs that focus on sharpness, contrast and control over aberrations. Many include image stabilisation and close focusing capabilities, which expand their use across different types of photography and video.

The range includes compact everyday models, professional L-series optics and hybrid VCM designs with smooth aperture control and quiet autofocus. This gives users the option to create a system around their shooting style as needs evolve.

For a closer look at real-world performance, read our Canon R6 Mark III review and Nick Dautlich’s Canon RF 100-500mm hands-on review, which explore autofocus, reach and field use in more detail.
