Canon EOS R1 Camera with RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L Lens Kit Summary
The Canon EOS R1 Camera with RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L Lens Kit combines Canon’s flagship mirrorless body with a fast standard zoom, forming a professional system for hybrid stills and video production. The EOS R1 sits at the top of the EOS R range, using a 24.2 megapixel stacked sensor with DIGIC X and DIGIC Accelerator processors to support high-speed capture, advanced autofocus and rapid data processing.
Continuous shooting bursts up to 40fps with a top shutter speed of 1/64,000 sec, allowing fast action to be captured with minimal rolling shutter. Advanced autofocus includes Cross Type AF, Action Priority mode and improved Eye Control AF, a proprietary technology from Canon, which supports consistent subject tracking, even during unpredictable movement. The camera also records 6K 60p RAW video, meeting the demands of hybrid workflows.
The included RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM provides a widely used focal range for general-purpose content creation, with a constant f/2.8 aperture and up to 5 stops of optical stabilisation for low-light conditions. Close focusing to 0.21m and a configurable control ring allow for customised adjustments during shooting, lending itself to a variety of subjects.

Canon EOS R1 Camera with RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L Lens Kit In More Detail
24.2 megapixel stacked full-frame sensor
The EOS R1 uses a 24.2-megapixel stacked sensor which enables faster data readout than conventional CMOS designs. This reduces rolling shutter when using the electronic shutter and allows continuous shooting at high frame rates without distortion in fast-moving subjects.
The sensor works with Canon’s latest image processor to maintain detail, colour accuracy and dynamic range across a wide range of shooting conditions. This combination supports both stills and video workflows where speed and image consistency are required.
Dual Pixel Intelligent AF
Autofocus is driven by Canon’s Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system, which uses deep learning to recognise and track subjects including people, animals and vehicles. The system maintains focus across the frame and adapts to movement, distance changes and partial obstructions.
Eye detection remains active even when subjects turn away or move unpredictably, supporting accurate focus during continuous shooting. Tracking performance remains consistent across both stills and video recording.
Up to 40fps shooting with AF and AE
The camera supports continuous shooting at up to 40 frames per second using the electronic shutter, with autofocus and exposure adjustments applied to each frame. This allows sequences to be captured with minimal gaps between images.
The fast readout of the stacked sensor supports this speed while maintaining image integrity, which is particularly relevant for sports, wildlife and event photography where timing is critical.
Superb video for hybrid workflows
The EOS R1 records high-resolution video, including 6K RAW up to 60p and 4K recording at higher frame rates. Internal recording options support professional workflows with flexibility in post-production.
Autofocus tracking remains active during video recording, maintaining subject focus across changing scenes. The camera also supports advanced video features such as Canon Log profiles for greater control over colour grading.
Cutting-edge connectivity
The camera includes high-speed wireless connectivity, including Wi-Fi 6E, alongside wired transfer options such as Ethernet. These allow fast file delivery directly from the camera, which is important for time-sensitive workflows such as news and live events.
Dual card slots support simultaneous recording or backup, providing additional reliability when capturing critical content.
RF 24-70mm f/2.8L optical performance
The RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM covers a commonly used focal range, allowing wide compositions at 24mm and closer framing at 70mm. This makes it suitable for a range of subjects without changing lenses.
The optical design includes aspherical and ultra-low dispersion elements which control chromatic aberration and maintain sharpness across the frame. Air Sphere Coating reduces flare and ghosting when shooting in strong light sources.
Constant aperture and stabilisation
The constant f/2.8 aperture maintains consistent exposure while zooming and supports control over depth of field. This is particularly useful for portraiture and low-light work where subject separation is required.
Optical image stabilisation provides support for handheld shooting, reducing the need for higher ISO settings or faster shutter speeds in lower light conditions.
Real-world handling and workflow
The integrated vertical grip provides a balanced hold when shooting in portrait orientation and supports longer shooting sessions. Controls remain accessible in both orientations, maintaining consistent operation.
The combination of camera and lens supports a fluid workflow, allowing photographers and videographers to move between wide and closer compositions without changing equipment, while maintaining autofocus performance and exposure consistency.
Canon RF lens ecosystem
The Canon RF lens range is for EOS R mirrorless cameras, offering a wide selection of focal lengths, aperture ranges and designs to suit any application. The RF mount allows fast communication between lens and body, supporting responsive autofocus, stabilisation and consistent exposure control.
Optical performance is maintained across the frame, with designs that focus on sharpness, contrast and control over aberrations. Many include image stabilisation and close focusing capabilities, which expand their use across different types of photography and video.
The range includes compact everyday models, professional L-series optics and hybrid VCM designs with smooth aperture control and quiet autofocus. This gives users the option to create a system around their shooting style as needs evolve.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which is better, a 24-70mm or 70-200mm lens for professional work?
A 24-70mm lens covers wide to standard focal lengths and is suited to events, documentary and general-purpose shooting. A 70-200mm lens provides greater reach and stronger subject isolation, which is more suitable for sports, portraits and distant subjects.
What is the difference between the EOS R1 and EOS R3?
The EOS R1 builds on the R3 with a revised 24.2MP stacked sensor and an additional DIGIC Accelerator working alongside DIGIC X. This supports faster data processing, improved subject recognition and more advanced autofocus behaviour. Rolling shutter is reduced compared to the R3, Eye Control AF is more responsive, and new features such as Action Priority mode improve subject tracking in fast-paced scenes.
How does the stacked sensor affect real-world performance?
The stacked design enables much faster readout, which reduces rolling shutter when using the electronic shutter. This allows high-speed continuous shooting with minimal distortion, particularly useful for sports, wildlife and fast-moving subjects.
What is Action Priority mode and when is it useful?
Action Priority mode identifies key movements within specific sports and adjusts autofocus tracking accordingly. It is useful when photographing unpredictable motion, where the camera prioritises critical moments such as a player striking a ball.
How is Eye Control AF improved compared to earlier versions?
Eye Control AF in the EOS R1 responds more quickly and tracks more accurately across the frame. It maintains subject selection more reliably when multiple subjects are present or when movement is rapid.
What video recording formats does the camera support?
The camera supports internal 6K RAW recording up to 60p and 4K recording at higher frame rates. It also includes Canon Log profiles, which provide greater flexibility for colour grading in post-production.
What type of memory cards does the R1 take?
The camera uses dual CFexpress Type B card slots, which support the data rates required for high-speed continuous shooting and 6K RAW video recording. Cards with sustained write speeds suitable for video capture are recommended.
What is the battery performance like?
The camera uses the LP-E19 battery, which supports extended shooting sessions. CIPA ratings are approximately 700 shots using the viewfinder and higher when using the rear screen, with additional capacity available when shooting bursts or video.
How does the electronic viewfinder perform during continuous shooting?
The 9.44 million dot electronic viewfinder provides a high-resolution, blackout-free display during continuous shooting. This allows continuous subject tracking without interruption, which is important for timing and framing accuracy.
