Nikon Z6 III Firmware Version 2.00 Available

NEWS: 1 September 2025 – Nikon Z6 III Firmware Version 2.00 Available for the gourd breaking full-frame mirrorless camera. This is the first major firmware update, which adds several important features and improvements that extend creative possibilities and enhance day-to-day usability.

What’s New in Firmware 2.00?

Birds subject detection Mode Added

A new Birds option has been added to the subject-detection menu for both stills and video. The Z6III can now recognise and track small, fast-moving birds even when they are flying against busy backgrounds.

In-camera focus limiter

Users can now set the closest and farthest distances for autofocus, which helps to improve focus acquisition speed when using Nikon NIKKOR Z lenses only.

Auto Capture function

Firmware 2.00 introduces Auto Capture, which automatically triggers shooting when pre-set criteria are met. You can select conditions such as subject type, motion, distance or timing. It also supports scheduling and USB to Ethernet connections for faster data transfer.

Image provenance and authenticity

This version 2.00 update adds compatibility with the C2PA standard with Nikon’s image provenance service, which is a C2PA-compliant photo authenticity service that was designed and tested in collaboration with the Agence France-Presse (AFP).

It won’t disrupt your workflow, but it will protect your work. By linking to Nikon Imaging Cloud, photographers can embed metadata and digital signatures in their images, providing proof of origin and authenticity.

Pixel Shift with focus shift and AE bracketing

Pixel-shift shooting can now be combined with Focus Shift or AE Bracketing. This enables ultra-high resolution images with more control over depth of field and exposure, making it particularly useful for architectural or product work.

Other improvements

Live streaming via USB

The Z6III can now be used as a high-quality webcam for live streaming. Simply connect the camera to a computer or smart device using its UVC/UAC-compliant USB port.

C15 shooting mode for fast-action bursts

Firmware 2.00 adds a 15 fps [C15] burst mode to Pre-Release Capture within High-Speed Frame Capture+, expanding the choice of shooting speeds alongside 30, 60 and 120 fps.

Better FTP connectivity

Professional workflows benefit from improved FTP functionality. You can now specify port numbers, convert RAW or JPEG images to HEIF at your preferred compression ratio, and make further refinements for faster file delivery.

More flexibility for the way you create

Additional assignable functions and display options make it easier to adapt the Z6III to individual shooting styles. Playback and editing options inside the camera have also been expanded, giving creators greater flexibility on location.

Other improvements to usability

• An automatic monitor display switch disables the eye sensor when the vari-angle screen is in use.
• It is now possible to exit zoom view with a half-press of the shutter when using manual focus.
