With 25 litres of storage and a removable camera Core Unit, this is versatile enough to cater for light duty day trips and urban adventures. Whether you enjoy photography, video recording or other pursuits, the Shimoda Urban Explore 25 Backpack offers ample storage with easy gear access from the rear or side, together with unique features for today’s urban content creator.
Shimoda has developed a custom recycled fabric for the range, which is highly abrasive, water repellant, and this boa colour benefits from real leather accents for a beautiful finish. The backpack is designed to hold all of equipment needed for an outing, including up to a 16-inch MacBook Pro, Capture Clip from Peak Design, and a variety of other equipment, including daily essentials.
A custom sized removable camera Core Unit enables you to switch from camera pack to general gear whenever needed. This addition to the Shimoda backpack lineup also introduces a variety of new features, while also keeping the very best from the Action X and Explore ranges.
The concept originated in 2021, and has been refined ever since to offer comfort and protection for less gruelling everyday adventures, without the diehard features which the Action X and Explore ranges provide. However it’s incredibly robust and feature-rich, with numerous thoughtful touches, which include a Capture Clip strap, spring loaded retractable handles and a webbing base handle.

Newly developed recycled material
The Cordura re/cor RPET is a Shimoda developed fabric, which is 100% Post Consumer Recycled Polyester, made from PET bottles and packaging. It features GRO Polyester (spun), which is 2x PU Coated, a custom rip stop weave to reduce snags and tears, and is a highly durable fabric, which works in naturally.
Versatile storage
As the middle sized bag in the range, the Shimoda Urban Explore 25 Backpack offers plenty of versatility to bring all of the essentials you need for a day trip. The removable core unit can be configured to fit a camera, lenses, small drone or other items, with both side and rear access to grab your gear and capture the shot.
A top compartment provides some internal space for clothing, snacks and other personal items, and includes three organiser pockets for your phone and other essentials. Two external side pockets with compression straps offer storage for a travel-size tripod, water bottle or similar sized items.
A luggage handle passthrough connects to your roller bag for travel, while a retractable handle and signature base handle are also available for easier grabbing from awkward spaces.
Features for creators
Aside from the main compartment, removable Core Unit and upper compartment, a cable management pockets provides cable access into the main compartment, enabling you to keep your camera topped up with power while stowed away.
Security features
Several features have been designed to keep your gear safe while out shooting and during travels. These include a hidden AirTag sleeve to store your tracking device, a hidden passport and valuables pocket, which is safely tucked away, and the side access can be zipped shut for an added layer of protection.
Protective rain cover
A Shimoda rain cover is included with the Urban series, which is stashed in the bottom sleeve. This not only protects your valuable investment while shooting, but can also be used to protect the outer material from dust, dirt and water while putting the bag down on the ground to access your gear.
Comfortable carrying
Just as all other models from the range, this Shimoda pack includes an internal aluminium frame for additional rigidity. The rear panel utilises breathable airmesh padding to encourage airflow, while being extremely comfortable for all-day photography excursions.
Adjustable shoulder straps are made with the same padded airmesh materials, and the fit is slightly slimmer to accommodate both male and female creators. Lastly, a magnetic sternum strap offers one-handed support for greater comfort with heavier loads, or when you want to keep the pack close to your back.
Camera Core Unit
Inside the pack you’ll find a camera core unit, which can be removed when you don’t need to bring any content gear. The dividers can be configured to suit your requirements and offer plenty of protection for the enclosed equipment. A new divider design simplifies the setup experience and provides just the right level of padding.

The latest backpacks are available in three sizes, with two colours in each size, highlighted in the table below. Each colour has its own theme with PU or real leather accents and matching zips and interior.

Condition guide
Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.

This product has been thoroughly tested by our team of photographers and we are happy to give a 6 month warranty as a result. The number of tests depends on the individual product but we are confident in this product having tested all the major functions. Anything that isn’t as you would expect, we then make a note of and show this in the condition notes on the page.
