Opticron Trailfinder HD 8x36 Monoculars In More Detail

Optical Performance

The 8x magnification provides steady handheld viewing, making it suitable for extended observation without the instability sometimes associated with higher powers. A 36mm objective lens gathers more light than smaller pocket monoculars, supporting clearer viewing in overcast conditions or shaded woodland.

The fully multi-coated optical system reduces surface reflections and maintains contrast across the image. BAK4 roof prisms ensure consistent light transmission and edge clarity within the 7.5° field of view. At 131m across at 1000m, the field remains wide enough for tracking wildlife and general landscape observation.

Viewing Comfort

Eye relief measures 21mm, enabling comfortable use with glasses while maintaining the full field of view. The 20mm eyepiece diameter supports a natural viewing position. A three-stage retractable rubber eyecup allows incremental adjustment for stable alignment and stray light control.

The monocular focuses down to 4.7m, which suits general countryside observation rather than close-range macro-style viewing.

Construction and Durability

The aluminium alloy body maintains rigidity while keeping weight to 292g. Full PR rubber armouring provides grip and light impact protection. Nitrogen filling prevents internal fogging, and the IPX-6 rating indicates resistance to heavy rain and water exposure.

At 125mm long and 56mm wide, the monocular remains compact enough for pocket carry. The integrated belt clip supports hands-free transport during hikes, and compatibility with the Opticron 29030 38mm neoprene strap allows additional carrying options.

Intended Use

This model suits walkers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts who prefer a lightweight alternative to binoculars. The 8x36 configuration offers a practical balance between magnification, brightness and portability for daytime field use.
