Canon EOS R50 V Camera Body in More Detail

Designed for video

Canon has refined the R50 V’s body design to include a comfortable grip for handheld shooting, and the camera features a video-first mode dial on top, for quick access to different shooting modes. This dial also provides access to photo mode, which enables either manual or auto control via the camera menu.

Vari-angle touchscreen

A thoughtfully designed Vari-angle touchscreen allows you to flip out the LCD screen in horizontal and vertical recording modes for selfies and difficult angles. The screen doesn’t interfere with any cables connected to the camera, and the menu system automatically flips orientation when switching between horizontal and vertical for uninterrupted shooting.

A tripod hole for vertical shooting can be found on the camera’s side, which allows for connection to any standard tripod, as well as the Canon Tripod Grip HG-100TBR for vlogging and remote control. Additionally a red record button on the front of the camera provides easy recording activation when vlogging, without needing to change the position of the camera.

Canon Advanced Shoe

An advanced shoe on the camera lets you add a compatible Canon Speedlite, external microphone or other cable-free accessory to elevate your content with a dedicated accessory. The body also features a power zoom lever, enabling digital zooming when shooting with a PZ lens, such as the RF-S 14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ Lens, which launched simultaneously with the camera. This delivers smooth fingertip control over the lens’ zoom, without needing to change your grip on the camera.

Canon RF Mount

With the RF mount you can add the latest prime and zoom lenses not only from Canon, but also third party manufacturers including Sigma, who has extensive experience in developing world-class lenses. These include zooms such as the Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary Lens for Canon RF Mount and Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF Mount, both of which provide extensive reach with versatile zoom ranges.

Meanwhile Canon has a number of options that include the Canon RF-S 10-18mm F/4.5-6.3 IS USM Lens, which is perfect for landscapes, travel and vlogging on this crop-format mirrorless camera.

Content that looks its best

Capture stunning video content in a variety of formats, including 4K30p oversampled video from 6K, slow motion in 4K 60p (cropped) or Full HD 120p. The Canon Log 3 profile is also available, which captures a wider dynamic range with broad colour grading versatility during post. 4:2:2 10-bit recording is available, allowing for more accurate and smoother colour rendition in your video footage.

Canon has also included a Custom Pictureprofile feature, which allows you to fine-tune your content by adjusting certain settings such as gamma/colour space, matrix, and by using look files. This offers quick changes to your preferred image characteristics as well as presets, which provides advanced capabilities for streamlined content creation.

Tools for high-end production values

Various tools are available to help users streamline their content creation process through the use of Aspect Markers, Timecodeand specific exposure and focus tools such as False colour, zebra display, and MF peaking.

  • Aspect Markers provide a visual guide for how the final image will look in various aspect ratios, which is ideal when you create content for different platforms.
  • Timecode adds specific metadata to your videos, enabling accurate syncing that allows the editing process to move more smoothly.
  • A tally lamp is available, highlighting when the camera is recording so you never accidentally miss segments.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

One of the most impressive features of the EOS R50 V is the inclusion of Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, which is powerful autofocus technology for stills and video found throughout high-end cameras like the EOS R5 and R6 Mark II. This system offers wide sensor coverage so you can achieve sharp focus on yourself or your subject, even as it moves to the edges of the frame.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II also features advanced subject recognition to track people, select animals, and vehicles, making it easier to get sharp results, while concentrating on the creative aspect of your content.

Connectivity and content broadcast

When it comes to dropping your content the Canon EOS R50 V Camera is ready with a variety of connectivity options, including:

  • WiFi connection
  • USB connection to camera connect
  • UVC/UAC plug-and-play webcam with computer supplied power
  • UVC up to 4K 60p
  • Live streaming with Canon’s Live Switcher Mobile app, which doesn’t require a PC or switcher

Canon RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens Summary

Thanks to an ultra wide angle zoom range, the Canon RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens lets you get more in the shot, even when you can’t stand back from your subject. With its crop-format RF-S design, the zoom lens is ideal on crop sensor Canon mirrorless cameras such as the EOS R7 or R10, and it also complements the lightweight R50 camera perfectly.

The wide angle field of view is equivalent to 16-29mm (full-frame format), which lends itself to landscape photography, travel, video making and vlogging in particular. What’s more, this RF-S lens includes 4-stops of image stabilisation (IS), which increases to 6-stops when combined with camera IBIS found in the R7 and other models. Stabilisation is extremely effective when you want to handhold the camera and capture images and movies without needing a tripod, and is effective for shooting during low light situations.

Canon has included an STM motor (stepper motor) in the zoom lens, which delivers smooth, fast and quiet autofocus, ensuring your subject stays sharp, even when it’s moving around across the frame. The RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 also features a high 0.5x magnification, which allows you to capture stunning close-ups, explore dynamic compositions and record vlogs more easily.

You can customise the manual focus / control ring to change settings on the camera like ISO, shutter speed, aperture or exposure compensation, which helps streamline and speed up your workflow.

Canon RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens in More Detail

Get more in the frame

This lens’ ultra wide field of view is used to capture epic scenery, city shots and video, where you want to get more of the scene into each frame, without standing back from the subject. Whether you’re shooting inside a building, on the street, or hiking to wild landscapes the RF-S 10-18mm is the perfect ultra wide angle lens to nail every shot.

You can use it to record yourself and plenty of the background while vlogging, capture group shots of family and friends all together, and even make movies which invite the viewer to step into your storytelling world.

Up to 6-stops image stabilisation

Regardless of its compact and lightweight design, the Canon RF-S 10-18mm lens includes built-in optical image stabilisation (IS), which reduces camera shake by 4-stops, or up to 6-stops when combined with camera body stabilisation (IBIS).

Stabilisation is especially useful when working in low light, while walking and recording video during a vlog, or when making a movie, helping to keep your photos and videos sharper, smoother and clearer.

Fast and quiet focus

Smooth, fast and quiet focus is ideal when recording video and capturing photos where you don’t want to disturb the subject with unnecessary noise. Canon has utilised their effective and quiet STM focus technology in the ultra wide RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM zoom lens, ensuring you come away with sharp results more often, even when the subject is moving around.

The Stepper Motor (STM) delivers quiet, smooth focusing, making it ideal for filming, while still being great for photography.

Customisable control ring

Following the trend of other Canon mirrorless lenses, this model also offers a combined manual focus ring and control ring, which can be customised to change camera settings without taking your hand off the lens. The feature can be invaluable when you want to adjust anything such as focus, ISO or exposure compensation on the fly, without interrupting the shot by looking at the camera menu.

Compact design with high image quality

At just 150g this is one of the lightest ultra wide angle zoom lenses available, yet it captures high image quality thanks to Canon’s effective mirrorless optical design. A combination of Plastic-moulded (PMo) aspherical lens elements and UD (ultra-low dispersion) elements are responsible for maintaining great image and video quality, while reducing weight when compared with heavy glass elements found in other models.

When retracted, this lens measures just 44.9mm long, making it the ideal candidate for travel and easy transportation, in even the smallest camera setup. In fact it’s smaller than equivalent DSLR lenses, a mirrorless with adapted lens or just about any other model available from Canon.
